Description
Privately owned since 1809, the Ochsenfurter Kauzen-Bräu stands for traditional Franconian brewing culture. The brewery was not always called Kauzen Bräu. It was not until 1974 that the Ochsenfurt monastery brewery was renamed the Kauzen Brewery.

500ml can from a Costco Advent Calendar, drank at my daughters place on 10th December 2021. Mini-mist in the golden body, white affair on top. Malty front to the nose and taste, some grassy notes in there too. It's OK, but nothing to make it stand out from the crowd.

500 ml from the Costco Advent calendar. Aroma is sweet bready malt, grassy, chalky. Pours nearly clear golden with particulates floating around and a one finger off-white head with great retention. Taste is sweet with faint building to light bitterness. Wasn't a big fan at first, but it grew on me.

Can, Aldi/ Kalea pack. Gold, a slight haze. A fluffy white head fades to a cm. Aroma of slightly buttery bread, light spices & grass. A bit of body and briefly rich before mildly spiced and quite firm bitterness. Rustic, refreshing.

500ml bottle. Clear, orange golden colour with average, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Sweet-ish and minimally spicy, grainy, strawy and minimally bready, malty aroma, a touch of corn flakes, minimally soapy ovetones. Taste is sweet-ish, grainy, slightly bready and minimally strawy, malty, a touch of corn flakes, light, bitter hoppy counterpart. Slightly creamy-oily, watery texture, smooth, soft and silky palate, fine and soft carbonation. Sweet-ish, simple, slightly anaemic, nice mouthfeel - so-so.

500ml bottle [brewed by Kauzen Bräu, Ochsenfurt]. Clear, dark yellow-ish, golden colour with small to avergae, creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Minimally musty, grainy, strawy, malty aroma, a bready touch. Taste is grainy, strawy, minimally bready, malty, minimally metallic, bitter hoppy, subtle sweetness. Watery texture, indifferent palate, medium to fine, mildly prickly carbonation. Simple, monotonous, boring - so-so.

Gold with a frothy, white head. Aroma of wet stones, mixed grains. Taste is very mildly sweet, but too sweet for my conception of a pilsener. A bit bready with hints of butter and metals. Finishes more soggy than crisp. The slight citric diversion at the end is the most intriguing thing going here. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Drinkable.
