Description
It all started with eight visionary men who founded the “Vereinsbrauerei Berliner Gastwirte zu Berlin AG” on February 1st, 1872 in Rixdorf. They established a modern brewery within one year, which was opened on July 19, 1873. The first public serving takes place on this day. In 1890 the brewery decides, as one of the first breweries in Germany, to brew a Pilsen beer. It is called - based on its southern German relatives - "Berliner Kindl". In 1910 the brewery is renamed "Berliner Kindl Brauerei AG". In 2006 Berliner Kindl returns to its former location in the east of Berlin. The entire range is now brewed in the Berliner Kindl Schultheiss brewery in Lichtenberg.

Draught at a restuarant in Lehnin. Clear golden, airy head. Dusty hoppy nose. Dryish, clean and cardboardy with notes of dust, yeast and vegetables. Industrial and lifeless with low drinkabaility and no crispness. Un-pilsnerish.

Had an old bottle from 1989 - 0,75l - made for friends of the brewery. The bottle looks good, the beer in the glass also, but there’s no foam. Starts very sourish, prickly. The finish is a bit moldy and metallically, but I think that’s because of it’s age. Really good one!

Bottle, 5.0%. Hint of apple aroma. Clear light amber colour. Very small head. The flavour also has a hint of green apple, but not unpleasant. Also a little bread and grain in the finish along with some spicy hop.

Bottle, 5.5%. Clear golden colour, small frothy white head. The flavour is slightly malty, but also a little grainy. Slightly rough bitterness. Not clean enough for an Export.

Test vom 14.8.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 10,5,6,4,-,5 - 5,52
