Description
It all started with eight visionary men who founded the “Vereinsbrauerei Berliner Gastwirte zu Berlin AG” on February 1st, 1872 in Rixdorf. They established a modern brewery within one year, which was opened on July 19, 1873. The first public serving takes place on this day. In 1890 the brewery decides, as one of the first breweries in Germany, to brew a Pilsen beer. It is called - based on its southern German relatives - "Berliner Kindl". In 1910 the brewery is renamed "Berliner Kindl Brauerei AG". In 2006 Berliner Kindl returns to its former location in the east of Berlin. The entire range is now brewed in the Berliner Kindl Schultheiss brewery in Lichtenberg.

500 ml bottle, bought at KaDeWe, Berlin. Dark reddish brown colour, large tan head. Pleasant roasty and malty sweet aroma, notes of dark chocolate, prunes and leather. Lightly roasty and malty flavour, hints of chocolate, pumpernickel bread and mild coffee. A pleasant and easy-drinking bock.

On tap in Oranienburg. Pale golden colour, decent head. Herbal aromatic hops in the aroma. Flavour is relatively rich and malty for a German pilsener. Nice.

(bottle) Clear dark copper colour with a small creamy off-white foam. Sweet toasty malty aroma with caramel and shy fruity notes in the background. Mild sweet toasty flavour, medium bodied, smooth mouthfeel; medium dry toastmalty with a touch of bittering hops and a bit of chocolate in the aftertaste. Lacks complexity but is quite enjoyable and aromatic with well-integrated alcohol.

Bottle. Acidic aroma, only little berry. Cloudy dark purple colour, almost no head. The flavour starts off sour, but is also quite sweet. Acidic aftertaste. Not that bad, actually.

Bottled. Golden hazy colour, mediumsized head. Aroma sweet fruits, hops and wheat. Very sweet, but extremely dry lemon in flavour. Extreme dryness. Like a very good cider, more than a beer. Aftertaste of fruit and wheat.
