Description
Four lifelong Oregonians got together on February 13, 2009 and decided that their knowledge of locale and understanding of craft beer could be an excellent starting point for a business. Later that year Hop Valley Brewing had its debut in Springfield, Oregon, but grew too large for its 15-barrel capacity and opened a new 60-barrel brewhouse and taproom in Eugene in 2013. In July 2016 MillerCoors acquired a majority stake of Hop Valley through its Tenth and Blake craft beer and import division. Hop Valley Brewing Company will operate as a separate business unit of Tenth and Blake.

22 oz bottle pour. Pours a near black color with no head. Sweet malt and vanilla aroma. Nice roasted flavor to this. Not as much vanilla as expected, but that is a positive for me. I enjoy vanilla, but not as the main feature. A little sweet but overall this is pretty good. Enjoyed it a bunch.

650 ml. bottle sampled @ Firestone Walker Tasting. Thank you! Hazy orange, creamy white. Nose is substantial yeast presence, thick, citrus, honey. Taste is honey, medicinal hop, muted dough, citrus peel, med. bitter. Tad yeasty body. Could have used more outspoken hop-character here & less yeast, cleaner, decent.

Bomber from Made in Oregon. Pours very dark brown with a slight beige head. Milk chocolate aroma. Maybe some vanilla. Med body. Flavor is bitter chocolate with some vanilla. Gets a little earthy. Not sure about coffee. It’s bitter, but chocolate? coffee? hop? Can’t tell. Finishes well towards dry.

Bottle from Biernavigatie, large sample, served in a shaker. Clear orange color, medium frothy off-white head. Big hoppy aroma of citrus, grapefruit, pine, but also quite some malty notes of caramel. Quite fruity bitterness, piney as well, caramel and biscuity sweetness. Quite clean and crisp.

Bottle. Clear, amber body, with a medium, creamy, white head. Aroma of grapefruit, pine, peach, mango, some other fruits, caramel. Taste is refreshingly light bodied, with about the same aromas again and also some biscuit, grass and tea. Mouthfeel is medium, slick, with a medium carbonation and it finishes smooth, medium bitter, with lemon zest, pine, grass and some fruits. Tasty! A refreshing, light bodied, but still fully aromatic IPA, with a nice balance of fruits, pine and malts.

Bottle from The Beer Junction, Seattle
Hazy amber color with medium head. Fresh aroma of citrus fruits, hint of guava. The mouthfeel is quite dry, but not weak; light caramelly malt flavor, strong bitterness; the hopping is well resiny and fruity, with a mix of citrus peel.
Very good.

Cloudy golden color with small head. The aroma is a bit piney and citrusy. The mouthfeel is rather dry, there is some caramel and toffee flavor, strong bitterness, but not enough hop qualities.
I wonder if there is a problem of freshness, but there is no date on the bottle.
