Description
Four lifelong Oregonians got together on February 13, 2009 and decided that their knowledge of locale and understanding of craft beer could be an excellent starting point for a business. Later that year Hop Valley Brewing had its debut in Springfield, Oregon, but grew too large for its 15-barrel capacity and opened a new 60-barrel brewhouse and taproom in Eugene in 2013. In July 2016 MillerCoors acquired a majority stake of Hop Valley through its Tenth and Blake craft beer and import division. Hop Valley Brewing Company will operate as a separate business unit of Tenth and Blake.

Draught @ Baileys Taproom, Portland, OR

Pours hazy orange with a smooth foamy head. Aroma of dank wet piney hops, grass, fruits, malts and juicy notes. Taste is dank hoppy, malty, fruity and caramely. Finish is lingering bitter with massive amounts of fresh wet hops and dank fruitness. Awesome DIPA.

22 oz. bottle, pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is bursting of juicy tropical fruits - pineapple, melon, honeydew -- piney hops, some resin, and a caramel malt backbone. Flavour is very similar, bursting of pungent citrus fruit zest, some tropical fruits, piney and resinous hops, and dry zesty biscuity malt to back. Super flavourful, nice and dry, yet juicy, with a citrusy, hoppy finish. Amazingly well-balanced, with high drinkability and high refereshingness. A most awesome IPA.

Super hazy light copper and orange coloured body with a thin one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of bright cascade hops with some pine and resin notes, a hint of passionfruit and a little bit of pineapple smell as well, coupled with some good malt as well. Medium-bodied; Assertive cascade hop flavour at first that fades into a smooth tropical fruit flavour with the sweetness really coming out near the end. Aftertaste shows a good balance of malt and hops with a pleasant sweetness and some subdued complexity from the tropical fruits and resinous flavours. Overall, a nice IPA that could use a bit more hops, but that could be due to it’s age. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Belmont Station in Portland, Oregon on 11-November-2013 for US$3.49 sampled at home in Washington on the other end of this fine country on 21-March-2014.

Bomber from Belmont Station. Pours dark copper with a small beige head. Aroma of hop - with a little roasty malt underneath. Med + body. Flavor is quite malty, but there’s a lot of hop. Getting a hop burn. Hard to pin down any particular hop - the usual suspects - but I think pine/citrus has to be the main thing. Very smooth and mellow, not at all harsh - excepting that ongoing burn. Big and malty with lots of hop. Really something.

It?s about time I update my rating on this beer. I keep going back to it over and over, so I feel like it deserves a promotion. 22 oz bottle pour, the only way I have ever been able to find this stuff. Pours a lighter clear copper color with a short lived head. This is my favorite IPA. I love everything about this beer. Fresh hops and fresh citrus aroma. Perfectly balanced IPA with an incredible grapefruit presence. Flavor includes a large variety of tropical fruit without the sweetness that would typically try to ruin it for me. Drinks super easy with a perfect amount of hop character to it. Gentle hop bitter finish with a blast of fresh fruit. For me, this IPA sets a high curve. Love this beer. Update: found it on tap, still awesome. Update, it’s been a while. Still my go to IPA even after hundreds of others. I got the bottom of the keg tonight, and it’s still awesome. More points!
