Description
Four lifelong Oregonians got together on February 13, 2009 and decided that their knowledge of locale and understanding of craft beer could be an excellent starting point for a business. Later that year Hop Valley Brewing had its debut in Springfield, Oregon, but grew too large for its 15-barrel capacity and opened a new 60-barrel brewhouse and taproom in Eugene in 2013. In July 2016 MillerCoors acquired a majority stake of Hop Valley through its Tenth and Blake craft beer and import division. Hop Valley Brewing Company will operate as a separate business unit of Tenth and Blake.

Bottle at the first Kinki Beer Tasting. I liked the classic fairly clear orange-gold color with a citrus-pine hop aroma. A medium body with a bitter pine taste & a dry finish. It’s a solid but unexceptional IPA.

On tap at the Green Dragon. Listed just as Hop Valley Cream Ale 5%. Pours a somewhat cloudy orange color with a large creamy white head. A light nose of floral hops, butterscotch and smooth toasted malt. The flavor is malt-forward with semi-sweet light graininess, some oranges and marmalade. Light overall, creamy palate and good. To style. A light hop bite in the finish.

Bomber from Harmons. Pours a mostly clear dark copper color with a small white head. A pretty nice nose of caramel, resin and citrus fruit. The flavor is sweet grapefruit, apples, caramel, light sweet resiny fruit. Fairly big flavors. Medium bitterness. Good.

On tap. Pours a bright clear copper color with a medium white head. Big nose of oranges, big citrus, some resin. Big tropical fruit flavor, light bitter finish, oranges, some mango, very clean and very good. Certainly tastes like a IIPA! I’m surprised a bit by the lower ABV.

Craft Clerkenwell. Martin T tasting. Light haze on this paleish gold beer, little white head. Light dry palate. Light papery pale malt. Forensic trace of citrus. Papery finish. Frankly a bit rubbish.

Draught. Deep redder than red colour with white head. Much lacing. Aroma is balanced hop and maltiness. Hayey flavour with a good malt backbone. Toasty finish.
