Clear pale golden with a foamy white head. Malty start, some shy woody, dusty hops with a touch of cardboard.

Moroccon standard lager, ’premium beer’ as the label says, aimed at the tourists I suppose, hence the resounding name and the palm trees above it. Brown bottle, which does elicit a certain trust, I must say. Cristal clear golden colour, a tad deeper and more orangey than usual for the style, with even tiny bits of lager yeast here and there; regular but loose, snow white head, dense on the edges. Malt sweet aroma, dry cookies, sugar corn, dough, white candi syrup effect, soap, faint iron and rubber and very, very far away a grassy touch of hops, only noticeable when warming up and even then remaining very subdued. Simple malt sweet onset, more caramelly or biscuity than usual for the style (a feature already announced by the deep golden hue), with a metallic ’zing’ to it though not very disturbing; popcorn flavour too, bit oily mouthfeel but otherwise ’fuller’ than expected, with fairly spritzy carbo. Finishes in minerally carbonation, tingling on the root of the tongue and ’enlightening’ the boring, slick grainy and even ’soapy’ sweetness. I get a very faint touch of grassy hops all the way at the back, but very briefly so and not achieving anything bittering at all. Artificial, bland, sweet pale lager indeed, but in spite of the lack of hops, this still shows a more satisfying maltiness than is custom in these macro lagers. I cannot say I enjoyed, but it was in any case less bad than I expected. I guess this passes if served ice cold in Casablanca - or anywhere in Moroccan tourist attractions.

33 cl bottle @ Sankt Hans Tasting, Ulfborg.
Aroma is quite mild with some sticky malt, starchy tones and corn. Feels sweet. Flavour has sweet malty tones, starchy notes, cardboardy tones, corn and mild minty tones. Quite typical bulk pale lager - on the sweet side.

330ml bottle from BeerMerchants.com. Was expecting this to be much worse than it was. No sweetcorn for a start with a half-decent lager bite. Would happily have again if I ever found myself in Morocco. Which I don’t expect any time soon.
