I am surprised at all the low scores for this one. I had not been impressed with this brewer before trying this one. Sampled on draft at the Rivertowne Pub this beer poured a bright copper color with a medium sized white head. The aroma was strong sweet piney and floral hops. The flavor was strong sweet and thick with robust fruity, piney and floral hops. The hops linger on the long sweet finish. definitely my kind of IPA. Very hoppy but not harsh at all. The hops blended exceptionally well in this one.

On tap at the Bocktown. Has an oily honey sweet hoppy floral aroma, like flowers! Very outstanding in the olfactory. My nose is truly impressed. Crystal clear light orange yellow. Some decent carbonation but needs more. Very hoppy bitter preservative flavors. Bitter medicinal taste. A little too much bitter personality for my sweet stout taste buds. Long lingering terrible finish. Very good example of an IPA!

June 2007 bottling, #679. Bottle from jah noth. Appearance is much like prune juice, topped by a thin, tight cream head. Aroma of caramels and some sweet spicy notes, brown sugar, and medicinal characteristics. Toasty body with brown sugar, chocolate, and dark fruits. The rye malt is somewhat peachy and musty, especially in its interplay with the oak. Cinnamon. Light tartness. Earthy, bitter finish. Intense and over-the-top, this rough beer needs more age. Even with age, there is probably too much going on here.

Bottle. This beer has a lot going for it, not the least being the smokiness blends well with the other flavors rather than dominating them. Large, fizzy, tan head. Deep reddish-brown body. The huge aroma is full of peat, roasted, toasted and burnt malts, smoke, bitter chocolate and a hint of toffee. The flavor is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter and moderately to heavily acidic. Medium to full body, water texture and soft carbonation. Long, dry finish.

On tap at the Bocktown, nice place. Typical attractive porter bouquet. A very dark root beer colored beer. Fairly roasty with out too much bitterness. A nice example of a dark beer. Some of the 6.3% alky shows thru but overall it is well hidden. Bitterness builds thru the session. Some mild carbonation. In summary, not too bad. Smokiness is present but not overwhelming as with many smoked beers. Good example of an unoffensive decent dark beer.

12 oz bottle from Beastiefan2K; Light flowery hop nose; copper with a very small offwhite head; flavor of very light hop bitterness and caramel. Is this really a DIPA. I would rate it a mediocre IPA!

Wow, what a label, cloud with personality, a little scary. A shade darker than the pale yellow american lager. A little hazy, must be unfiltered. Decent carbonation thru the session. Thin head. Fruity and hoppy on the aroma and the taste. Wet rag olfactory. .Almost IPA in character. Finish is bitter linger for at least a short period of time. Not as bitter as an IPA but certain has the hoopy bite to it. I find it more palatable than many APAs.

I didn’t realize this was a bock. Whatever the style, it is a very good coffee beer. Exceptionally smooth palate. Coffee aroma and coffee flavor balanced by sweet malt. Black, and very little carbonation. Thanks Brewfiend.

This has a great citrus hop aroma. Intense flavor, more citrus, hops and sweet malt. Dark brown appearance. All of the aromas and flavors are powerful, and the quality of the beer is clear. This is in the style of Houblon.
