Description
Champale Malt Liquor was first produced in 1939 by the Metropolis Brewing Company at its brewery on Lamberton and Lalor streets in Trenton, New Jersey and later also in Norfolk, Virginia. The companies' names were later changed to Champale, Inc. and the Champale Products Corporation. The two operating breweries were privately owned by the Hertzberg brothers until their sale to publicly held Iroquois Brands, Ltd. in the mid-1970s.

Admin Note: Pabst acquired the rights to Champale when it purchased G. Heileman Brewing Company in 1999.

Bottle. Pours a dark orange with small white head. The aroma is corn malt and fruit. Spoiled fruit flavor. Nothing going on here.

Bottled as "Lion Brewery G. Heileman Champale Extra Dry, 5.4%" @MC
Golden color, no head. Apple, cider in the nose. Dry apple and cider/white wine in the flavor. Nicely drying finish. Smooth palate. Beer? No - it’s a cider!

Bottled@Monks Café, Wallingatan, Stockholm. (as Lion Brewery G. Heileman Champale Extra Dry, 5.4%). Rather pale yellowish golden colour, not much head. Aroma is whitewine, dry semidry apples and that’s about it. Flavour is white wine, some rather dry wooden and applelike notes. Strange brew.

I don’t think that this is a malt liquor. Actually, I am not sure if this is even a beer. All that I know is that it has 5.4 percent alcohol and is sold in a dive cold beer store somewhere in North Philly. Well it smells like a cider and kind of tastes like one too. This has zero beer taste at all and as far as I am concerned, this is far easier to drink that some more vile pale lagers and malt liquors. But it is just bizarre.
