Bottle 275ml.[ Courtesy of Fin & chriso ]. Unclear medium amber color with a average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, nutty, chocolate, spicy, alcohol. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20090307]

Cask (handpump) @ Smithfield Hotel, 37 Swan St, Manchester, Greater Manchester England M4 5JZ.Clear medium to dark orange amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, berry bitter, apple. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20090124]

Bottle at ZBF09. Roasted aroma, some soy. Muddy brown colour. The flavour is roasted, funky and spicy. Quite sweet as well. Tastes a bit of soy, too. Strange and interesting.

Cask at smithfield 2009... amber ... sweet medicianl nose ... watery odd hop ... little sourness..... TK2 ... Bottle at home ... Thanks to FIn... copper ... sweet toffee malt ... very bright ... little yeast ... little bitter.... i think my 2.7 was a bit crewl so up to 3.0 but still not quite me

Bottle that I picked up from the brewery 23-01-09, and consumed 28-01-09 Pours amber with a slight haze, though my utility room is very cold and so this might be a chill haze as my next beer also threw a slight haze. Aroma is malty but there is also a hint of soft fruits maybe apricot. Taste is quite clean and crisp, both Loz and I noted this but once again that lovey earthiness that I found present in at least three of the Hopshackle beers comes through once again. There is a nice bittersweet qulity to this and even a touch of light spice, bit like cloved orange, whatever it is another very enjoyable beer, cheers Nigel. A7 A3 F7 P4 OV15 3.6

Bottle that I picked up from the brewery 23-01-09, and consumed 27-01-09 Pours chesnut colour with a white head. The aroma is subtley spicy but also with a touch of earthy hops as well. taste is really quite decent, I get a little blast of prune juice, some ginger, toffee and then the sweet malts flood through, also noting some nutmeg or similar in the mouth. Quite juicy and a touch of yeast showing at the end, nice beer. A7 A4 F7 P4 OV14 3.6

Bottle that I picked up from the brewery 23-01-09, and consumed 27-01-09 Pours a slightly murky mid brown colour with a white head, I have to confess that my pour may have been a little clumsy though and may have stirred up some sediment. Some fruit and malt linger on the nose. The taste is slightly reminiscent of an old style bitter, it’s a good earthy beer with a strong malty backbone, some chewy toffee, hops and good fruitiness complete the picture. At times I was reminded a little of the Bartrams Captain Bill Bartrams Best Bitter that I had last year, another solid and lovely old style bitter. Decent solid beer that was most enjoyable. Tasted at the brewery (new cask) 23-01-09 and in bottle 25-01-09 The sample that I had at the brewery at 110 IBU’s courtesy of Nigel the brewer was a little more bitter than the bottle currently being consumed. Pours hazy light amber, aroma is lovely old leather and old oak wardrobe (I know that sounds strange but thats what I get) , touch musty but also with fruit and some alcohol. Initially sweet with banana and spices but the bitterness carries this along quite marvellously, lovely warmth from the alcohol, slight numbing across the tongue from the bitterness, sweet malts throughout, quite lovely. Cask gravity at Oxford Beer Festival 16-10-08 Pours dark reddybrown colour not much of a head. Some chocolate instantly starts to show in the mouth along with a rather nice subtle rush of sweet but tangy cherry which was a really pleasant surprise. This really does have an old fashioned quality to it, not much bitterness, good fruitiness but nicely kept in check by malts and chocolatey sweetness, lovely beer.

Bottle at home... Huge thanks to FIN for this rare high Scoring UK ale ... Lovly deep copper brown ... vineous nose plums date and rasisins little yeasy little strawberry... quite sweet yeastyness ... again a little plums and the strawberry is more noticeible (very odd but very nice)... nice bready fruit linger ... low bitterness...medium body with a light carbonation...
