Bottle. A clear one, golden in color and with a decent, white head. Sweetish, almost corn like aroma with fruityness and some resiny hints. The flavor is quite bitter, with and underlying sweetness from pale malts. Medium body, pleasant carbonation. Bitter and lightly fruity finish with a touch of hay and grass. Not too fond of the aroma, but it’s a quite tasteful and pleasant pilsener anyway. 120622

Has an excellent body, but lacks the full flavour it is clearly aspiring to.

Brown 500ml bottle ’Czech Premium Lager’ on the label. My bottle was one month out of date (best before 5th April 2008, drank 8th May 2008). Poured into one of my Veltins stemmed glasses two and ahalf times. Mid-range Lager/Pilsner appearance, meaning a golden yellow body, more dull than bright and with the normal white head. The head on each pour fell away very quickly to leave a thin scum on top of the well carbonated body. This lager had an aroma, some hops, yeast and baking powder? Dry and fairly refreshing, this had a lot more substance than a lot of lagers, not so watery as a few I could mention. A smooth feel for a lager. I thought this a good example of a Czech Pilsner/Lager.

16th march 2008: Drinking round the world today, had a Malt lager from Kenya and an Ale from the UK so far. So a Black Lager from Bohemia (now the Czech Republic) isn’t a bad third choice. Brown 500ml bottle, loads of life left, well 8 months anyway. Poured into one of my Thistle shaped Gordon glasses (twice). Cracking look to it, really deep black/ruby red colour with a fantastic creamy, full, biege head on top. The thistle glass really shows it off well. More aroma than most black beers I’ve had, there is some burnt malts and more than a little Porter and Stout type smells too. Again the burnt malts are the dominant factor, this time with a lager style sharpness added. At 5.2% it sits nicely, there is a slight heaviness in the mouthfeel, but it isn’t a thick beer by any means. I think this is the best Black Beer (style wise) I’ve ever had, not checked my other review scores but I don’t remember enjoying one this much before. A very nice beer.

Bottle. Thanks to Larsa! Malty nose with notes of marzipan, vegtables and citrus. The taste has a clean maltiness with a fresh hoppiness in the finish. The alcohol is shown in a quite unpleasant way in the aftertaste.
