On tap at The Wharf, Aalborg. A black beer topped by a nitro-like finger-thick tan head leaving lacings. Chocolate and coffee on the nose, heavily roasted and with some dried fruits. Smooth, medium bodied, dry mouthfeel, with flavors of chocolate and coffee. Tar and dried fruits in the back. Low on hoppy bitterness, and some salty licorice is lurking in the back. Roasted bitter finish with some hoppy bitterness. Tasteful and easy drinkable, could easily down a few of these. 091025

On tap at The Wharf, Aalborg. As Dublin Porter. It’s a dark, dark brown beer with a reddish glow. Clear, and topped by a creamy, finger-thick dark beige head. Buttery nose, heavily roasted borderlining charcoal. A bit weak. The flavor is heavily burnt, towards charcoal and ashtray, with notes of butter. Smooth, medium mouthfeel. Roasted bitterness in the finish. Easy drinking, but boring. Rating: 5-4-6-3-12-3. 091025

On tap at The Wharf, Aalborg. As Red Connelly. It’s a clear, copper-colored beer topped by a nitro-looking creamy, finger-thick off-white head. The aroma has a little sour hint, with caramel and nutty hint. Faint citrusy hops. Caramel maltyness, quite sweet flavor with a decent bitterness to bring it to balance. Smooth, medium mouthfeel. Short fruity finish with pleasant bitterness. Drinks easy but is very boring. 091025

Draught at the Temple Bar Brewpub. Fruity, chewy, with great malt, bubblegum flavors and just the right sweetness. Ok, maybe it’s a little too sweet. Good caramel and grains. Very nice. Maybe a touch behind Maguire’s, though.

Draught at the Temple Bar Brewpub. Burnt to a crisp, with flavors of coffee and chocolate. Great body. Great bitter, roasted flavor. Long, dry, burnt finish. Bitter! Well hopped as well. Amazing head—it was there all the way to the end!

Draught at the Temple Bar Brewpub. Deep copper color with a low head. Fruity malt aroma, with caramel and a touch of hops. Mellow flavor of fruit—dried, dark, fruit—and port. Sweet but superbly hopped. Bitter. Hop blast comes in late, at the finish, and lasts. Excellent.

Draught, Porterhouse, Dublin. Not the most original name for a beer it seems, with 54 other brews sharing the moniker, but luckily its not a bad drop at all. Reddy amber looks with a small off white head. Plenty of citus hops in the nose and the flavour with a sweet malt spine. Pleasing bitterness. Pleasantly drinkable and definitely one of the best Irish beers I’ve tasted.

On tap at the Porterhouse, Dublin. Dusky black looks with a decent dark tan head. Nose was malt heavy, grain, some soapy kind of thing and trace hop. Smooth soft and clean sliding down. Flavour was roasty toasty with dark chocolate and coffee notes. Dry bitter finish. Tasty stuff, if a little unrefined.

Bottle at Porterhouse, Covent Garden. Maybe I got a bad bottle of this, but I didn’t like this at all. Deep gold, lasting thick ivory head. Very hoppy very bitter but the hops have an odd pine bleach flavour to it that is most unattractive. Like a radox bath salt. Could be a belter of a pale ale, but turns inot something almost undrinkable. Poor.

Draught at Charlies. Creamy off-white excellent fully lasting head. Black colour. Heavy malty and moderate hoppy aroma. Very nice moderate bitter flavor. Nice licorice and roasted notes. Fantastic creamy palate. Really nice.
