From a 330ml bottle on 12/7/2012. Pours a clear golden with a medium head which disappears quickly. Smells like ginger beer. Tastes like ginger beer. Unfortunately, I don’t much like ginger beer. On a positive note, at least it’s not sickly sweet like the soft drink. Still, a quite disappointing release after their splendid Hoppy Hefe.

Bottle. Deep amber with a slight, off-white head. Caramel, red berries and a hint of liquorice, before a moderately bitter finish. Ok.

Can on a Qantas flight. Deep gold with plenty of fizz. Sweet aroma and flavour with a caramel edge and orange fruit. Flavour was dryish with a touch of hop. Ok.

From a 640ml bottle on 21/4/2012. Pours a cloudy golden orange colour with a medium head. Has a lovely fruity aroma, particularly passionfruit and a little apricot and peach. The latter two really come out in flavour, along with quite a distinct citric tartness. True to the name, it has a good solid hop punch to counter the fruity sweetness up front. This is the best thing I’ve tried from Malt Shovel to date. Usually their gear is solid but unexciting. This however is something quite different and genuinely impressive . A very pleasant surprise. Rating 4.
Re-rate on 22/5/2012. I’ve been drinking a fair bit of this after discovering it’s goodness. A cracking, unusual and wonderful beer.

Pours hazy dark amber with a large, fading head.Nose shows tropical fruity hops, lychee, peach, nectarines. Like fruit confectionery, very sweet smelling.Similarly fruity falvours, but not more of the wheat comes through. Pretty sweet. Very sweet actually.Body should be a bit lighter, it’d make it more refreshing.

Bottle, 8C. Clear rosy amber with a large off-white head. Aroma of kumquats, lychees, passionfruit, lemon pudding. Taste is slightly sweet with caramel, a hint of wheat, window cleaner, tropical fruits. A little odd licorice note at the end. Seemed a little syrupy as it warmed. Quite interesting. Nothing to do with hefeweizens at all.

(bottle) Slightly hazy golden amber with great head. Lovely aroma, primarily citrusy hops with some pleasant complex esters. Medium body with god carbonation. The flavour is rather unusual. The start seems strongly nfluenced by te hops with similar citrusy hoppy notes. This develops some interesting spicy pepper notes and hints of banana. Then it falls a bit flat. Overall this is an interesting and very drinkable beer, but a bit of an unusual combination of styles. They sort of work pretty well together, but it is a bit mixed up - not at all unpleasant, just disconcerting.

Just hazy gold with a white head. Aroma of hay and tropical fruits. Taste is sweet and fruity with some grapes and gooseberry. Not much bitterness. Timid but refreshing.
