Hogna Brygg
Microbrewery
in Kotsøy,
Trøndelag,
Norway 🇳🇴
Associated Venue: Hogna Brygg
Established in 2016
As 2016 approached the team started looking for a suitable place to put it all together. A recently closed and emptied supermarket proved to be a healthy space to put it all together. The building would have room to grow and had refrigeration systems vital to production of quality of beer. Located in Kotsøy the brewery would need a name and an identity.
Tormod Leithe from Dynamis Designs was brought to the table. He designed a logo that had the four elements as branches around a central core. The four branches represent the four valleys around Forollhogna, the four main ingredients of beer, and the founders of the business. Respectively the core, our product, comes from the branches of dedicated people and quality ingredients.
As the branches of this design came together so did the brewery.

Can. Almost clear golden body whit a small white head. Aroma is very similar to a pilsner, weak grain and pale malt. Flavor is also rather plain and straight forward, pale malt, grain and mild grassy bitterness. No obvious faults but not very interesting and I have no reason to by this again.

Can. Clear golden body with a small, dense white head. Aroma has pale malt and citric fruit. Flavor is light and quite refreshing, hint of grapefruit, peach and moderate bitterness. Quite plain, drinkable but not much typical to a wheat beer.

Can. Unclear golden body with a small, lacing white head. Quite intense ginger aroma and not much more. Flavor has a strong, sharp ginger flavor, almost like pickled ginger not leaving room for so many more flavors. OK, you should expect ginger when buying a ginger beer, no problem with that, but I’m expecting some beer flavors as well. That’s the difference between a fermented ginger brew and a beer with ginger flavor.

Can. Brown body with a nice, dense beige head with lacing. Aroma of mild roasted, dark malt, mild coffee and hint of chocolate. Flavor is light roasted, dark malt, sweet caramel malt, coffee and hint of chocolate. Medium body and OK aftertaste. Quite nice for a relatively low alcohol stout.
