Draft at BP Dupont. Opaque choco-brown. Massive thick brown-beige head. Lots of specialty malt, thick and roasty. More Stout-like than Porter in my opinion, maybe a hint of amber malt buried in there somewhere. Sugary. sticky, full bodied. Some mild fruity, nutty tones in the finish. OK.

Draft at Churchkey, courtesy of staff, thank you gentlemen! Nearly completely black, massive very dark brown head with good retention and moderate lacing. Aroma of pure cocoa powder and a hint of pepper. Taste is coffee grounds and dark chocolate. Medium body. More like a stout than a porter. Tasty.

The Big Hunt, DC tap ($6): Pours an copper color with a whitish head. Aroma is mostly of moderate hops, a little piny. Body is pretty light for an APA, making for easy drinking. Hop bitterness is present, but not in extreme amounts; I would say it is fairly average for an APA in this regard. Balance is done pretty well. Not the most interesting beer, but I guess this beer was brewed so that DC could be more like everyone else anyway. I’m excited to see what they come out with later and how widely they will be distributed in this already saturated market.
