Bottle thanks to Stuu666. Appearance - deep brown with orange chinks. Thin off white head. Nose - toffee, hazelnut, honey, orange peel and light prunes. Taste - dried orange, going into marmalade, floral honey, chewy nougat and praline. Palate - medium to full bodied, creamy middle. Some malt bitterness creeping into the finish. Unusually for this style, the booze is very well disguised. Overall - fantastic beer!

On tap at Toms Tap & Brewhouse, Crewe. Pours pretty much jet black with a small cream head. There’s a strong aroma of ginger here and this continues in the mouth where it is bar far the dominant flavour. Roasted malts can also be detected plus hints of liquorice and dark fruits. Alcoholic strength comes through in the finish. A bit one dimensional, but excellent.

Hazy red grape colour beer, tidy pinky mauve cream colour head. Smooth palate, mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Saison herb immediately obvious, as is some evaporating alcohol that both cools and warms. Red wine comes through on the back end, light but fairly clear and with some nice red and black berry elements but curiously piney. Smooth finish. Odd. I like the idea but delivery is only half way there for me. The red wine aspect needs to be a lot bolder for a saison that is north of 12% . It's interesting whilst never tugging on my heart strings.
