Turbid gold pour - frothy lace - nose is strong pineapple, herbal and peppery phenols (white pepper and sage), some background sulphur which ruins things a bit - flavor is dry and herbal, with light peppery and moderate plastic phenols - some light notes of pineapple, peppery, moderate herbal notes - light sulphur, but not nearly as much as in the aroma - flawed, but has potential to become a lot better with later batches.

Tap @ Funkwerks. Per usual for Funkwerks, the appearance is absolutely gorgeous, cloudy, light golden orange appearance with a nice, white head with moderate retention. The nose is very citrusy (lemon, tangerine, apricot, grapefruit) that has a spicy/bready yeasty element with a touch of bitterness. A bit tart, lemon/tangerine citrusy, rich pils malty, somewhat spicy, belgian yeasty flavor. Sort of a floral, citrusy aftertaste. The aroma and appearance are spectacular, but the flavor isn’t quite as nice.

Bottle thanks to Tom. Pours a clear deep reddish brown with a brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of dark grains and fruit with a bit of backing funk and barrel. Flavor starts with a hint of bourbon with dark grains and bread with a hint of funk.

Tap @ Cranknstein Foco. Cloudy, light yellow orange appearance with a white head. Pretty funky, pineapple, mango, citrusy, a bit musty aroma. Tart, bretty, funky pineapple, tangy citrusy flavor with a fairly dry, estery finish. I enjoyed this one quite a bit. By the way, this is a completely different recipe from their Saison.

Tap @ Funkwerks. Fairly clear, dark reddish brown appearance with a brown head. The aroma is fucking weird: tangy dark berries, woody, sweet bourbon, light vanilla, and more dark fruits. Plum, dark grape, blackberry, rich vanilla, cheap bourbon, vanilla flavor. Not a huge fan and it really makes me question my Dark Prophet rating.

Tap @ Funkwerks. Deep brown appearance with a big, fluffy, dark brown head. The coffee in the nose is so roasty and burnt that I almost get a weird meaty note. The nasty coffee smell unfortunately dominates the aroma. Charred, burnt, six hour old Burger King coffee flavor with light notes of chocolate and oats. This is the second coffee beer I’ve had from these guys and they were both not very palatable to me.

Tap @ Funkwerks. Deep brown appearance with a nice, full, dark brown head. Roasty, oaty, milk chocolate, light vanilla, mild espresso aroma. A touch nutty, roasty, milk chocolate flavor with a slightly bitter, thin finish.

Tap at Tap and Handle - lightly hazy gold. - nose is lightly acidic, with moderate apricot notes and a touch of pepper - flavor is light and dry - moderate nots of apricot and peppery spice - some light wheat and mild peppery phenols - mild tangy wheat - a touch of banana - subtle but tasty - like.

Now this is more pepper beer than saison - understandable, considering the chiles used - the malt and yeast profile of the saison is intact up front, with light floral notes and a touch of sweetness - pepper heat kicks in strong through the middle and really hits hard in the finish - however, the character of the saison is never washed out and the spice never becomes overpowering - spicy finish, with undercurrents of floral notes and sweetness - killer pepper beer.
