Paid $1.50 for a 12-oz single. Clear rubious brown with a small head. Smells bready, malty, and fruity. Flavor is bitter and bready. Bitter finish. Nothing extraordinary, but it is drinkable.

Clear yellow golden coloured body with a thin white head. Aroma of stale, cardboardy malt. A slight hoppiness in the scent, but nothing pleasant. Light-bodied; Tart and metallic maltiness up front with a subtle citrus taste and nothing else-no hops or sugars. Aftertaset shows a bland cardboard taste. Overall, VERY lacking-this one was way worse than expected! I’ll stick to the 765 mL bottles. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington, D.C. on 07-December-04.

2003 bottle thanks to JCW!! Pours with an absolutely incredible amount of foamy beige head which is very long lasting. Medium-dark olive brown color with some orange hues and an almost purple tone to it. Murky and bottle conditioned. Aroma has a ton of unmalted roasted barley in it which provides a huge dose of vinousness and rich barley flavor. Notes of plums, figs and grapes. Flavor. Wow, this is a day-after beer if I’ve ever had one. What I mean is that it becomes a much better beer after it has been opened and allowed to sit out overnight, at least in my experience. Right when opened, it is so highly carbonated that the carbonation disrupts the body and does not allow the oily, rich, cohesive body to be appreciated. After it has mellowed, however, this beer is divine. Copious amounts of barley give it a very vinous flavor; tons of rich barley notes, concord grapes and bocky wininess. Starts out with a dry, earthy, dusty yeastiness and progresses in to the rich roasted barley body, which is lightly sweet and has a dose of bitter noble hops. The hops impart flavor moreso than bitterness, but the beer is not overly sweet to begin with so it needs little balancing bitterness. Transitions in to a smooth dark chocolate flavor and finally finishes with a strong dose of bocky wininess. Caramel malt lingers lightly in the background throughout. Fantastic dunkel, and I’m very appreciative of John for sending this. I will certainly be buying this when it comes out next Spring.

Reddish brown ale with an off-white head. Fuzzy hops aroma, pinous and earthy. Fresh sweet malts and raisins, vinous, with good restrained hop finish. Close to a barley wine. Good rich bodied. Very nice. Bottle sampled with TiggMtl, MartinT, muzzlehatch and Rastacouere.

Wonderful smelling brew: lotsa tropics in here- I swear I smell some pineapple along with the grapefruit/pine scents. Initial taste is outstanding... there’s much fruitiness in there, including that pineapple. However, it gets a bit too sweet... it masks the alcohol very well, but by doing so, it gets almost sickeningly sweet. Very tasty, but needs to be toned down a bit in the sweetness area.

This Pilsner pours a pretty light lemon yellow with a tall frothy white head. Clean Saaz hop aroma. Light body but the nice thing about this is it has a nice full round dryness that keeps it interesting. Very nice Pilsner worth seeking out.

Murky orange body, thin but persistent cream head. Huge piney, citric, caramely aroma. Wow! The hops really assault the palate upon hitting the tastebuds with strong bitter, piney resins and pineapple. Very sweet and biting. Reminds me a bit of Bells Hopslam. Alcohol is well-hidden. This style apparently isn’t going away, and that’s not a bad thing, keeping moderation in mind.

New 12 ounce bottling line. Opaque deep brown body, thin dissipating tan head. Rich sweetened chocolate aroma with molasses, roasted malts, touches of dark fruit and alcohol. Rather thin-bodied but flavorful with chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, molasses and alcohol with just a touch of vanilla. A more refined Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout. Much better than the previous Fat Dog.

From the newer 12 ounce bottle line and simply labeled "Triple." Cloudy orange appearance with a thin off-white head. Banana, clove, and citrus aroma. Clove is abundant in the flavor profile, with banana holding ground in a distant 2nd place. At the same time, this is on the sweeter end of the Tripel spectrum, but I prefer the spices toned down a bit.

Cask/ hand pump at Blind Tiger/ NYC. This pulled a hazy lemon yellow with a prodigious head. Fresh grapefruit aroma. This starts with some malt sweetness with the hops coming right in next with a full bitter hoppy rage, before fading into a nice sticky dryness. Very nice smooth IIPA.
