Description
Holy Goat is a Dundee based brewery specialising in the production of mixed- fermentation and wood aged beers.

Mixed fermentation refers to the use of unconventional yeasts and bacteria in brewing, which allows production of beers with unique character. We are driven by experimentation and are obsessed with the awesome flavours which can be achieved from mixed-culture fermentations.

Inspired by tradition mixed fermentation beer styles we seek to pay hommage to our brewing forbears, using new techniques, fermentation styles and the highest quality ingredients to produce complex, interesting and (most importantly) tasty beer!

The breweries name references the tongue-in-cheek description of the ‘goat’ like qualities of wild yeast (Brettanomyces) characteristics. A reverence to this yeast and to the beers which display these characteristics is a strong part of the identity of the brewery.

Hail the goat!

Copper colour, mediumsized off-white head. Aroma is floral, some dried fruity tones, and mild spicy tones with a wee bit of alcohol to it. Flavour is quite similar, intense kind of Scotch ale. Lovely brew.

Draught Dark tan head, not very huge; black beer with a brown-red rim. Slightly salty/mineral nose. Further coffee, roasted nuts, sweetish meatroast. Very dry, coffee-like flavour. Dry, almost ashy, smoked, roasty flavours; almost all sugars gone. Medium bodied, not thin but thinnish for its ABV. Very soft carbonation. Nowhere bad, but one might expect slighty more fireworks from 8%.

Tap at BPBW 2025. Misty purple body, off-white to pink head. Cherries leaning on hibiscus even dominate the aroma, bit citric and funky. Big cherry, berry, hibiscus notes in the smooth, pleasant taste, lean and dry. Good one!

Tap at BPBW 2025. Yellow-golden body, off-white head. Smooth aroma, the mango going towards peachiness, grape-like touches, perhaps from the yeastiness, definitely Bretty, wild. Lean, tart taste, both the stone fruit-like mango and the grape notes showing up again... Pretty nice overall!

Can from Great Grog. Hazy deep golden body with a thick off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of papery malt, black pepper and orange pith. Flavour follows the aroma - peppery and orangey. Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Light fizz. This is rough around the edges but quite enjoyable. It’s not really a west coast IPA at all.

Can shared by my bro. It pours nearly black with a thick, dark tan head. The aroma is smooth, super dark roasted malt, dark roast espresso, dark chocolate, nutty, praline, tarry, umami, liquorice, toasted sesame seeds and rocky road. The taste is bitter - sweet, slick, dark roast malt, chocolate cake, gateaux, plenty of coffee, espresso, burnt toast, mild acidity, chewy, toothy, vanilla, espresso martini, tiramisu and support from warming booze with a slick finish. Full body, average carbonation and quite velvety mouth. Rounded and moreish, but not too sweet.
