Description
Elysian Brewing Company operates three locations of which Elysian Capitol Hill is the main brewery and a full production brewery – Elysian Airport Way, in the Georgetown neighborhood (since 2011). Known both for classic styles and for flexibility and innovation, Elysian has brewed over 500 different recipes since opening in 1996. While Elysian’s brewers use a variety of unusual ingredients, they are seasonally notorious for their pumpkin beers. In 2015 Elysian joined AB InBevs' family of craft brands.

12 ounce bottle from Kroger Charlottesville Barracks, 1/10/20. Hazy dark orange, large tan head, fair retention. Aroma of jasmine, cat piss, tropical fruit, pale malt. Weird. Taste is extremely strong floral notes. Jasmine (I guess), honeysuckle. Some palt malt. Medium bodied, low bitterness. OK I guess, but very weird.

Black pounder can from JR's. Typical beer smell. Clear pale with a big giant head, wants to overflow my mug. Rather flat but not quite on the palate. Seems a little rude with many ill ale attributes. Stronger attitude, alky shows thru with ease. Some astringent bitterness building in the back of the throat. A little thick and syrupy in the end. Not impressed. Finishes with that bitter astringent bite becoming prominent. Probably should be listed as an IPA, comes across like a weak, aged IPA.

Opaque copper color. Taste is slightly sweet to start but has an earthy hop finish with a IPA aftertaste. Reminds me of Dogfish Head.

Quite hazy golden coloured body with a raw honey golden glow and a thinnish, very fast-dying pure white head, perhaps a centimetre tall at most. Aroma of limes, coriander seed, light grain, a dash of flowers and a good deal of citrusey hops and the bitterness associated. Light-bodied; Very fresh lime flavour with a sour quality that hits with a light pepper and brine note that provide an excellent balance and finish with a lot of hops and bitterness from the citrus-based notes and a solid, but very easy-drinking pale malt backbone. Aftertaste shows the sour and tart fruits, the light grain and a smooth malt, citrus and easy-drinking fresh coriander seed freshness with some smooth but noticeable complexity on the end. Overall, a very refreshing and enjoyable light beer that shows a ton of flavour, yet is very easy-to-drink with an approachable hop quality even for those who hate hops/bitterness. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Harris Teeter in Arlington (Pentagon Row), Virginia on 08-July-2019 for US$1,87 sampled at home in Washington on 12-November-2019.

Can: Amber-gold with a thick, off-white head. Orange/caramel, grain scent. Taste is grass and grain malt. Very malty and almost creamy. Solid grass and peel bitterness. Really does come across as a mix of an EPA and Ipa. Pretty nice.
