12 ounce bottle from Woodman's Appleton, 10.19.19. No reference to Payette and the ABV is now 3.8%. Hazy red, thin foamy white head. Aroma of funk, lacto, pale bready malt, dry and tart berries. Taste is tart berries, doughy malt, lacto, lemon. Medium bodied, crisp. High carb. Nice.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle, best by date January 15, 2020 poured into a glass. Hazy orange with small white head. Aroma is pumpkin, medium body, lower carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is pumpkin, clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Bottle: Poured a clear yellow/golden color ale with a large white foamy head with good retention and some good amount of lacing. Aroma of green hoppy notes with some citrusy notes and light tropical notes. Taste is also dominated by floral hops undertones with some citrus and tropical notes with a dry aftertaste. Body is about average with good carbonation. Dryer then I was expecting but still very enjoyable with lupulin powder easily noticeable.

It's been 3 years since I last tried this beer. When I saw the pumpkin variety pack in the store, I decided it was time for me to update my review of this beer, as well as the other varieties in the pack.
12 oz. bottle, 6% ABV, Experience by: 11FEB23
AROMA: Heavy scents of fresh-roasted coffee hit first and then they are followed by nutmeg and cinnamon, with pumpkin bringing up the rear. For something marketed as a pumpkin beer, the coffee scent is just too overpowering. However, I enjoy coffee anything, so the amped up coffee aroma is not that off-putting to me.
I will note that as the head dissipates, I get much less coffee aroma, and much more of the cinnamon and nutmeg. However, the pumpkin scent still remains a second-class citizen.
APPEARANCE: Pours an opaque black with a tall, dirty-tan head that dissipates slowly and has excellent lacing.
TASTE: Sweeter than the nose predicted but not overly sweet. The first thing I taste is milk/cream, followed by dark-roast coffee, and then finishing with a bit of nutmeg.
MOUTHFEEL: Body is on the thin side with a bit of a dry texture and slightly below average carbonation.The whole body/texture of this beer seems like a mismatch with its appearance. I would have expected something with a heavier body and creamier texture.
OVERALL: My assessment from 2019 (that the beer has little, to no, pumpkin flavor at all) still holds true for the 2022 vintage. I'd also say that it is a fine beer, in its own right, just not a very good pumpkin beer. Additionally, this is the only beer in the 2022 "Pumpkin Pack" that I feel is exactly the same as the beer in the 2019 "Pumpkin Pack". Which is unfortunate given that I thought 2 of the other beers in the pack (i.e. Dark O' The Moon Pumpkin Stout, and The Great Pumpkin Imperial Pumpkin Ale) improved quite a bit from their respective 2019 vintages.

It's been 3 years since I last tried this beer. When I saw the pumpkin variety pack in the store, I decided it was time for me to update my review of this beer, as well as the other varieties in the pack.
12 oz. bottle, 8.4% ABV, Experience by: 05FEB23
AROMA: Subdued scents of cloves, pumpkin, alcohol, orange zest.
APPEARANCE: Pours a hazy orange-caramel color with a tall, light tan head that dissipates slowly with very nice lacing.
TASTE: Moderately sweet with a slight sourness on the finish. There is definite pumpkin flavor with light amounts of clove and nutmeg, and just a hint of cinnamon. The finish is moderate with more of that unsweetened pumpkin and clove flavors.
MOUTHFEEL: Full-bodied with soft carbonation and a creamy texture. This feels very luxurious on the tongue!
OVERALL: I think I actually like this 2022 vintage better than the 2019. The aroma is about the same as the 2019, but everything else about the 2022 vintage is better. The 2022 has a better head with much better lacing, the mouthfeel is much more luxurious, and I find the flavor to be better balanced. In my book, I think this is as close to the perfect pumpkin beer as I've ever had. Pumpkin is the star flavor, supporting flavors are not overpowering, it's not overly sweet, and it has a nice creamy texture. What's not to like?

And right now, it seems like a good balance.

AROMA: Slightly sweet with scents of chocolate, pumpkin, allspice, and cinnamon are the most prevalent.
APPEARANCE: Pour an opaque black with a tall, dark tan head that dissipates slowly with excellent lacing. This beer looks incredibly delicious in a clear-glass
Pilsner, and I find myself having a hard time restraining myself from just diving into the "tasting" portion of my review!
TASTE: Moderately sweet. I'm first hit with big flavors of chocolate, followed by subdued flavors of pumpkin. The finish is moderately sweet with more of that chocolate flavor and a hint of cinnamon. I am finding the chocolate to clearly be the predominant flavor. Which seems odd since this is marketed as a pumpkin beer. To me this is more of a chocolate stout that has had a bit of pumpkin added to it. But you'll get no complaints from me, because this is a delicious beer no matter what it's marketed as!
MOUTHFEEL: Full-bodied with a rich and creamy texture and average carbonation. This feels great on the tongue and goes down smooth and easy.
OVERALL: I think I actually like this 2022 vintage better than the 2019, but only because it seems to have a bit more sweetness, and a bit more carbonation, than the 2019 vintage. Other than that the 2 vintages seem identical, to me.
One thing that I am noticing as the beer warms to room temperatur is that the cinnamon flavor starts to overtake the pumpkin. Cold, the flavors in order of predominance are chocolate, pumpkin, cinnamon. Warmer, the flavors in order of predominance are chocolate, cinnamon, pumpkin. For me, I prefer the "cold" flavor profile because the stronger cinnamon flavor of the "warmer" profile, starts to interfere with the delicious chocolate flavor.

APPEARANCE (5/5): Pours an opaque black with a tall, frothy, dark-tan head that dissipates very slowly. It definitely has a very "chocolatey" look to it!
TASTE (6/10): Doesn't taste anywhere near as sweet as it smells. You're first hit with flavors of bitter chocolate, followed by pumpkin, and ending with a bit of cinnamon.
MOUTHFEEL (4/5): Full-bodied with a rich and creamy texture. However, carbonation seems a little light for such a "heavy" beer.
OVERALL (15/20): I applaud the fact that this is not one of those beers that tries to be a pumpkin-pie-in-a-bottle. Rather, its sweetness is very subdued and lets the true, natural pumpkin flavor come through. This is the second bottle that I've tried from the "Pumpkin Pack". Last year, I tried Night Owl (which is also in the "Pumpkin Pack") and I found it to be delicious (even if it is somewhat of a pumpkin-pie-in-a-bottle). So I have high hopes for the remaining beers in the pack.

Bottle #4 of the pumpkin pack was planning on spacing these outba tocuh more but alas. Dark black pour one finger head. Nose is chocolate and spice. Tastes of chocolate, pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, malt, cola. Light biter and sweet cocoa in finish.

Clear burnt orange pour minimal head. Nose is all spice,cinnamon and pumpkin. Taste of chewy pumpkin, salty pumpkin seeds (which I’m cravin), all spice, nutmeg and cinnamon. Well balanced. Booze is slightly present on finish. Overall a good pumpkin ale.
