Description
As the “Köstritzer Erbschenke” the Köstritzer black beer brewery is first mentioned in 1543, making it one of the oldest breweries in Germany. In 1948, the brewery became a "Volkseigener Betrieb" after the state of Thuringia had expropriated it. In 1991 the Köstritzer Schwarzbierbrauerei became part of the Bitburger Group and within a few years it has grown into one of the most modern and largest breweries in Thuringia.

Quite good actually despite the ratings on here. Granted, it is mediocre for a German beer in the style, but it's much better than American versions that get better ratings on here. Substantial malt character and medium body are nice. Dresden netto

Flasche bei Marktkauf in Meppen gekauft. Helles Gelb, leichte Trübung, fester Schaum. Aroma: Malz, Zitrus, etwas Banane, Orange. Geschmack: Säuerlich-Fruchtig. Hefe, Orange, Kräuter. Dezent bitter im Abgang.

F: big, tanned, good retention. C: black, opaque. A: dark malts, bready, bit cocoa, caramel. T: dark malts, caramel, dark bread crust, bit chocolate, hint of roasted tones, smooth mouthfeel, light to medium body and carbonation, good one, enjoyed, 50cl bottle from Prik&Tik Kampenhout bottle shop in Belgium.

Keg at salthorse. Pours black, nose is meaty, liquorice, roasted, blackcurrant, taste is malty, meaty, toffee, liquorice.

In der Nase etwas plädderich, im Trunk kernig, leicht bitter hinten. Prinzipiell okay.
