Description
As the “Köstritzer Erbschenke” the Köstritzer black beer brewery is first mentioned in 1543, making it one of the oldest breweries in Germany. In 1948, the brewery became a "Volkseigener Betrieb" after the state of Thuringia had expropriated it. In 1991 the Köstritzer Schwarzbierbrauerei became part of the Bitburger Group and within a few years it has grown into one of the most modern and largest breweries in Thuringia.

bottle 33cl, from box with selected beers. nice, i like the strong taste of roasted stuff. I like the style of beer, and this one is well crafted, not watery or weird.

50 cL bottle. Pours black with a dense light brown head. Roasted malt aroma. Roasted malt flavour, slight breadish. Medium dry. Finish is the same persisting roasted malt flavour with almost no sweetness.

The bottle looks not too bad, the beer in the glass also. The beer is not as sweet as others of this kind - drinkable and good beer.

The bottle looks good, the beer in the glass also. Tastes modest malty, very balanced. I think one of the best schwarzbeers, really good!

Minimal fruchtiger Antrunk, dann schnell wässrig-herb. Nicht unbedingt super aber ok. 500 ml bottle...very very dark brown, appears black...light brown sugar head...lacing forming nicely...mild molasses, some fruit seems to be seeping through as well...blackberries, faint though...scent almost reminds me of all-bran cereal....very soft...molasses on the tongue and brown sugar, all mild and mingled...after a sip on the palate, it leaved you all tingled

330ml bottle. Nice looking appearance with a deep, rusty brown body topped by an off-white, small head. Slightly smell of smooth roasted malts. Dark malty flavour with hints of burnt coffee. Malty sweetness in the aftertaste. Fine balanced and an easy going black beer (Trier, 12.09.2007).

Bottle. Clear, pale golden beer with a white head. Grain and hay and a weak hoppy note in the aroma. The flavor is quite decent, with grain, hay and bitterness. Medium to thin body. Bitter, quite fruity finish. A quite decent and quaffable diät pils. (070806)
