Import bottle from Sam’s Wines, Downers Grove. Interesting reddish black pour, with a short-lived dark brown head. Sweet stout smell, but with some of the graininess of an import that may have sat around for a while. Taste does have hints of Baltika 6 to it, too, but just in a big grainy texture. A nice sweetness, but also a bit acidic. Well, this is made for a Mediterranean climate, an area most renown for pale lagers in hot weather, so it may succeed with its targeted drinkers. I could enjoy another one. Does leave a milky aftertaste.

Aroma is something of milk verging on souring with dark roasted malt. Very dark color with a dark tan head that laced a bit on its way to a ring. Medium body with near creamy carbonation. A slight bit lactic (aka sour) with some dark roasted malt and a light sweetness. Finish tends to flatten to mild sweet balanced by a very light dark malt burnt bitter. It’s quite pleasant, very drinkable, and fits, I think, a very old English style (say pre-war) which hangs on in strange places. Check out Younger of Alloa Sweetheart Stout.

Canned. Honeyish golden colour, mediumsized foamy white head. Aroma is really grassy and maizeish. Some mild acidic fruity notes also. Flavour is fruity hops, slight acidicness and quite much grassyness.

Bottle. Clear, almost golden beer with a white head. Alcohol, sweetness and maltyness, as well as a vague fruityness in the aroma. The flavor is sweet and malty as well, with some fruityness, a little bitter touch, and surprisingly not so much alcohol, at least not until the end. Medium full, sweetish body. The beer is too strong and unbalanced. I like strong beers, but they need a balance, and the alcohol should be more of the warming kind, than just alcohol. (070914)

Extra pale yellow with a tiny white head. Boring grain aroma. Thin and sweet flavour. Serving water is one way of getting no off-flavours.
