Description
Østerby Bryghus is what is called a phantom brewery, which means that we develop our beer locally on Læsø on a smaller brewery. When we hit the right taste, we brew in collaboration with Randers Bryghus in a minimum of 1,000 liters of brew.

Østerby Bryghus arose a bit by chance after many pleasant moments with good friends. We have for many years brewed different beers at our small micro brewery at home privately, the beer we often enjoyed at cozy gatherings with good friends. And soon the idea arose that a beer should be brewed with ingredients from the island. Several tests had to be brewed before we all agreed that now we had hit a beer that we can vouch for. It was an Amber Ale brewed according to its own recipe and pampered, so it tastes like beer should taste, hence our motto "Beer as beer should taste". Since then, the selection has grown, but all beers have been developed locally on Læsø.

At the beginning of 2022, we will start testing brews in public, as we have entered into a fantastic collaboration with Kitty and Andre at Huset Palsgaard. We will set up our brand new and 10 times larger brewery in their premises and go and develop good "Beer as Beer should taste" at the same time, on special occasions there will be the opportunity to taste what we test brew, it will give us a good guideline on what beer connoisseurs want.

Here at the beginning of 2022, our beer can be enjoyed at many of the island's restaurants and we believe and bet that there will probably be more to come 😊

Bottle 50 cl. Pours a clear black with a vague, burgundy hue and a small, beige head. Nose is mostly sweet roasty with a hint of....something. Sweet, roasty body, pretty rounded, not too harsh and as such a decent drinker. But the Tonka beans are lost on me, you simply cannot taste them, which I don't mind as I don't like them! A pleasant Stout. 270421

Bottle 50 cl. Pours a hazy amber with a small, roughish off-white head. There is indeed honey in the aroma, but it's not overpowering. Fairly thick body. There's also honey in the flavor, but again: it's not dominant and it doesn't turn the beer cloyingly sweet. Some phenols though. Also sufficient late bittering hops. A decent offering. 270421

500 ml bottle, from the gift shop by Læsø Spisehus, Østerby Havn. Brewed for the ghost brewery Østerby Bryghus by Randers Bryghus. Brewed with hand-picked bog myrtle / sweet gale from the island of Læsø. ABV is 5.6%. Moderately hazy reddish brown colour, small white head. Moderate sweetish aroma of malts and bog myrtle / sweet gale. The flavour is not too sweet, the malts are nicely balanced with the bog myrtle and the hops. Very enjoyable and refreshing.

Amber colour, slightly hazy, moderate white head. Aroma of honey and malts. The flavour is rounded with honey notes, some sweetness but not too much. Some fruitiness. Fairly distinct bitterness in the finish.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours a clear, warm amber with a small, off-white head. Nose is sweet and caramellish but doesn't reveal much sweet gale at this point. Body is rich with crystal malts, almost syrupy. The gale is now coming through strong adding its distinctive spiciness. Some subtle late hops, but it still leaves a very sweet beer. But it promises gale and on that it certainly delivers. 160819
