Description
The Brauhaus Gusswerk is an innovative symbiosis of a beer bar and a brewery, a place for enjoyment, communication and cosiness. The initiator of this unique project is Salzburg's Reinhold Barta, passionate brewer. After more than ten years of organic brewing experience he realized his organic brewery in Salzburg's “Gusswerk” in 2007. Reinhold Barta's goal is to make sustainable and biodynamic beer in Austria socially acceptable. When he saw the plans of the "Gusswerk", he immediately knew: "This is where my brewery belongs." The beer should be drawn from the strength of its origin, of course with purely organic ingredients and old, natural manufacturing processes that reflect the circle of nature.

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, deep golden to amber colour with a mid-sized and slightly tanned foamy head. Bready and slightly nutty cara-malty aroma with mildly citrus-fruity hoppy notes. Sweet and slightly bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Cara-malt upfront with yeasty spicy and subtle citric notes; sweet malty and mildly bitter hoppy finish, again with rather subtle fruity accents. Nice little brew, but not to be overrated. 01.VI.12

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, dark brown colour with a mid-sized tanned foamy head. Slightly molassy dark malty aroma with caramel and vague herbal accents. Moderately sweet flavour, light to medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Dark malt-character with hints of caramel, molasses, liquorice and subtle fruity notes, accompanied by a shy spicy touch; sweet and mildly bitter malt-accented finish with herbal accents coming through when the beer gets warmer. Okay as a Dunkel, unfortunately I didn´t get the Mädesüß flavours. 29.V.12

Bottled 330ml (BZ, BB 01/2013)
Deep ruby color, good beige head. Sticky, herbal and hayish aroma, also very metallic. Light to medium bodied. Herbal or spicey, berryish and metallic flavor. Beside of spices, also light hoppy bitterness. Bittersweet. Quite watery finish. This is not the worst of Gusswerk beers but nothing to buy another bottle.

Bottled 330ml (BZ, BB 04/2013)
Slightly hazy amber color, steady small off-white head. Flowery fruity aroma, certainly from Cascade. Some rye bread and citrus too. Light bodied. Quite bitter for Gusswerk beer. Fruity flavor, some caramel, a bit bready pale maltyness. Quite watery palate. Sweetish some kind of SNPA copy.

Bottled 330ml (BZ, BB 10/2012)
Clear golden color, small white head. Grainy and a bit sweetish fryity, apple aroma. Light-bodied. Flavor similar to aroma: sweetish grainy taste. Certainly organic & speciality grain feeling here. A bit fruity too. Low bitterness. This is not Zwickel, I would classify this Speciality Grain or Helles.

Bottled 330ml (BZ, BB 08/2014)
Deep dark brown color, vanishing head. Caramel, licorice, soya sauce and brown sugar in the nose. Impression varies after ever sniff. Medium-bodied. Starts sweet, then some hops, soya sauce and herbal notes. Finish has some vegetably flavors. Feels a bit flat and is thin for this ABV. Warming alcohol in the aftertaste. Similar to some German strong doppelbocks,

Bottled 330ml (BZ, BB 04/2013)
Pitch black color, quickly vanishing head. Cold coffee, licorice candy and some dusty notes in the aroma. Light bodied. Burned malty flavor. Roasted with some sweetish licorice. Oily. Long burned malty aftertaste. Drinkable, but odd it is. Not many organic stouts around.
