Description
The Brauhaus Gusswerk is an innovative symbiosis of a beer bar and a brewery, a place for enjoyment, communication and cosiness. The initiator of this unique project is Salzburg's Reinhold Barta, passionate brewer. After more than ten years of organic brewing experience he realized his organic brewery in Salzburg's “Gusswerk” in 2007. Reinhold Barta's goal is to make sustainable and biodynamic beer in Austria socially acceptable. When he saw the plans of the "Gusswerk", he immediately knew: "This is where my brewery belongs." The beer should be drawn from the strength of its origin, of course with purely organic ingredients and old, natural manufacturing processes that reflect the circle of nature.

Bottled 330ml. -from Julius Meinl Am Graben, Vienna. Cloudy yellow/orange coloured, small white head, honeyish grainy nose. Malty, grainy and light notes of honey with dry sweetish finish. Nothing special here.

33cl bottle from Alko. Poured dark amber with a thin head, that almost immediately disappeared. Ugly. Low carbonation. Aroma has some weak caramel notes along with some herbal notes. Flavor is caramel and yeast. Very boring and quite a mess.

Ogi got this at Julius Meinl in Vienna I reckon. Poured a misty golden body with a small white head. Nice grainy, honeyish malty nose. The taste is pretty much the same, only gluey as well, slightly dull, watery, vaguely stale, possessing almost no bitterness, and soft. Not my type of Zwickel.

Aroma of yeast, lemon and other citrus, quite heavy banana. Also some hops. Light sweetness. Very fresh. Difficult to rank, kind of nothing excellent sticks out but still greater than the sum of its parts. In a way the missing link between German weizen and Belgian wit. basement aromas,

Copperbrown beer with a medium, but quickly disapperaing, blond head. Aroma is malty, some fruitfull sweetness, sligthly metallic and some vegetables. Taste is malty, slightly roasted and also some berries can be found. Smooth and nice to drink. Aroma isn’t very succesfull, but taste is better. Quite OK, but I won’t buy this anymore.

Bottled (from Alko, Vaasa). Hazy deep orange/pale brown colour with small white head. Aroma is mild fruits, some wood, mild wheat as well as some mild yeastyness. Flavour is rather much the same in a quite nice balance.

33cl bottle from Alko. Poured pale golden with a very thin white head. Aroma is sweet corn and some weak citrus notes. Flavor is sweet, rice and light grainyness. Low carbonation. Don´t like the sweetness in this one, also some cardboard/vegetable notes in flavor.

33 cl bottle as "Gusswerk Urban Keller’s Steinbier", 5,6%. BBE 03.07.2012
A bit stale aroma has yeast and grainy malt and a metallic feeling. Slightly sweet flavour has grainy malt and some yeast. Feels a bit like homebrew. Rather sticky palate for this style. Balanced and good, on blind tasting I’d guess this was a kellerbier.

33 cl bottle, BBE 03.08.2012
Aroma is rather typical to a premium lager: refreshing, malty, some grassy hops. But there is also some stale element, which could be the rice. Flavour differs a bit from basic lager. It has some malt, but also some slightly sweet, dry rice and grass do appear. Bitter and dry aftertaste. Feels like clean and refreshing pale lager with an element that makes it a bit stale and weird.

Slightly cloudy beer with a weak and white head. Aroma is full of light malts, pure, some grass. Quite nice to drink, smooth and slippery. Taste is malty, some honey, only hint of bitterness; overally, taste is light, but not tasteless. Pure, light and fresh, rice isn’t spoiled this beer, maybe even it has give something more value with lightness, that fits nicely into the this beer.
