Description
The Hidden Mother began as a dream project for brewer Mike deTar, who learned the art of brewing in the San Francisco-Oakland Bay area. Relocating to the Spokane region in 2013, Mike and his friend Bob (RIP) fabricated the brewery’s first commercial system. With a small group of partners, The Hidden Mother constructed its first home on family property. Operational in early 2018, the first beers became available in March of that year.

The quality and unique character of the beers were recognized at the Washington Beer Awards during the first year. The Hidden Mother walked away with Gold and Silver medals in the experimental category, and 8 of the 9 submissions landed in the medal rounds. With too many beers to brew and not enough room at the original family brewhouse Hidden Mother Brewery opened its current Spokane location in late 2019 where we have proudly been brewing ever since.

Can from the Moscow Co-Op, Sept 2021. Clear golden pour with a nice white head. Aroma is dry with florals and hints of earthy spice. Uh oh, something is not right… very bitter, almost sour taste. Kind of a funky off-putting yeast vibe. Doesn’t taste infected, it’s just bad. Poured it in the flower bed and moved on.

12 oz. Contract brewed by Selkirk Abbey in Post Falls, ID. Aroma has notes of campfire, coriander, dark fruit, crackers. Pours clear deep golden with a one finger off white head with good retention. Taste is moderately smoky with a moderately bitter herbal hop edge. Tastes like a smoked Belgian table beer or something. Delicious.

12 oz. Contract brewed by Selkirk Abbey. Aroma has notes of grapefruit, biscuit, lemon, coriander, pine. Pours hazy golden with a two finger cream-white head with excellent retention. Taste has a high pithy bitterness, finishing dry, with flavors like the aroma descriptors. Not sure if it's intentional, but I taste a Belgian influence here. Pretty good.
