It was more than 335 years ago that Jean de Chaine from Wallonia founded a brewpub in Mannheim which he called Eichbaum, the German translation of his family name. State-of-the-art brewing and bottling technologies make for an annual output of 1.8 million hectolitres. More than 16 different beers and many different trading units make Privatbrauerei Eichbaum an attractive partner.

(can, according the GTINr. it has been brewed by Eichbaum) Clear, pale golden colour with a medium-sized foamy white head. Sweet, almost sugary grainy aroma with more than a touch of cooked cabbage. Light-bitter, slightly acidic flavour, light bodied, somewhat crispy mf. Unbelievable bland malty and metallic taste; watery, harsh tart and bitter finish. Brewed obviously for export, omitting the “infamous” Reinheitsgebot.

Bottle. A clear, copper colored beer with a nice beige head. Sweet and malty nose with caramel, roast and some hops. The same goes for the flavor, but there’s some alcohol present as well. Full body and a sweet and malty finish with some alcohol. Nice doppelbock. (070413)

Bügelverschlußflasche: Deep amber coloured, smaller off-white foamy layer; molasses, dark dried fruit and a touch of port in the nose; robust sweet bitter flavour, medium to full bodied; mainly molasses and dark fruit in the sweet finish, some bitterness, that keeps it well balanced, detectable in the very end. Not the worst Bock........
