650 ml bottle. Pours red/brown with light head. Aromas of roasted malt, light wood, and a whiff of vinegar. Subdued in terms of being sour compared to the original Bird of Prey or a Belgian sour brune but nonetheless very nice. Flavors of toasted malts, oak barrel, and slightly sour pitted fruit. Worth putting in the cellar and trying again in a few months

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating but this should be pretty fresh. Pours lightly hazy golden orange color with a nice 3 finger dense off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big pineapple, mango, lemon zest, orange rind, herbal, floral, pine, grass, and earthy spiciness. Excellent aromas with great balance and hop complexity. Taste of big grapefruit, orange rind, pineapple, herbal, floral, pine, and earthy spiciness. Good amount of floral bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, pineapple, herbal, pine, floral, and earthy spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Great balance and complexity of hop flavors; with a nice bitterness/sweetness balance as well. No cloying flavors on the finish at all. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with nearly zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic IPA! Excellent hop complexity and balance; very smooth and crisp to drink. Extremely enjoyable.

Bottle. Peach and light vanilla aroma. Cloudy orange, lacing white head. Strong fruity hops, resinny, peachy finish. Medium to light, slightly sticky body. Grassy aftertaste. I enjoyed the fruit salad qualities of this beer.

650 ml bottle. Original rating for 2012 vintage sampled Sept/12: Pours black with very little head. Aromas of smoke and dark chocolate powder. Smoky light bourbon flavor with underlying dark chocolate and black coffee notes. Alcohol present but in keeping with the bourbon taste. Nice. Much better now that it’s aged for a bit. Again for 2012 vintage sampled May/13 - Much richer though still hot. Additional toffee notes. 8/4/9/4/16 2015 vintage sampled Feb/15 (12.2%) - Pours black with slight tan head. Aromas of licorice, ash, roasted barley and alcohol. Flavors carry same with dark chocolate and light bourbon. Very hot. Probably the hottest to date - possibly overkill - but will need to cellar and see. 8/4/9/3/15 2017 vintage sampled Feb/17 (13.2%) - Pours black with short tan head. Aromas of dry dark salty chocolate, vanilla, and roasted malts. Flavors of rich dark chocolate, vanilla, light coconut, a little licorice and lots of dry roasted malts. The best yet. Cannot notice the ABV which was always present on previous years. Bourbon is also very slight. 8/4/9/4/17 2019 vintage sampled Feb/19. (10.3%) Pours a very dark brown with short tan head that dissipates quickly. Not much on the nose - some roasted malts and faint licorice. Flavors do not carry much either - faint licorice and dark chocolate and a lot of alcohol. Wow this one has really gone downhill 7/3/7/3/12 Maybe I should update the score to reflect the latest version... 2021 vintage sample Apr/21 (11.8%) Pours a very dark brown with short tan head. Aromas of nutty chocolate, vanilla, creamy coffee and roasted malts. Flavors follow same with emphasis on dark chocolate and roasted malts with a light barrel presence. Alcohol on finish. A good one for the cellar. 8/4/8/3/16. Updating ratings to reflect latest which is more an average... There really should be different entries per year due to the deltas and different ABVs 2022 vintage sampled Feb/22 (11%) Pours black with short foamy tan head. Aromas of black coffee and roasted malts. Flavors follow same with addition dry bitter chocolate. Cannot get any barrel aging. Maybe the barrels are worn out! 7/4/8/4/14. Updating ratings to reflect the latest. There really should be different entries per year due to the deltas and different ABVs

2016-02-19, draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver, 6-3-6-3-12=30
Dark blond color, clean, with small compact head. Mild aroma of Belgian yeast. Lean body, not as thick because of the high alcohol content; moderately sweet; loaded with bubblegum flavors, a bit soapy in the final.
This is the American idea of Belgian beers, clean in its concept, but far from being exciting.
2012-09-21, bottle from Central City Liquors, Surrey, 7-3-7-3-13=33
Hazy golden color. The malt aroma is sweetish, lightly fruity, with a touch of oak vanilla. Sweet flavor, a bit fruity; similar to many North American attempts at Belgian Ales, with strong bitterness and some oak.
Not bad, but not very interesting either.
