Cheers to microakes for the procurement. Hazy orangey-amber. Not much head. Aroma of wood, balsamic, cherries. Soft body and medium tartness. The flavours are fairly vinous with background maltiness and woody, pungent barrel finish. There is a bit too much bitterness initially and that takes away from what would ideally be a sweet-sour balance. Interesting brew.

Poor looking beer.Cloudy amber,head fadeforms, then dissipates promptly.Tart with woody vanilla notes in both nose and taste.Puckery acidic profile,astringent finish.Seriously lacking in both carbonation and body.

Re-rate about 9 years later, 2019 edition, slightly chilled - Pours with pretty okay foam and modest deep gold body. Nice strong hop aroma with hints of narrow caramel. Flavour is pretty heavy sweet cloying hops and caramel. Mouthfeel is way too boozy but still keeps the abv in check. Otherwise a slight reduction in score but my opinion still stands, relatively so. December 27, 2011 - Fine dark brown/black body with very small head. Huge amount of hops on the nose, far more than I would expect from a barley wine. Taste is overcome by hoppiness to the exception of all else. I didn’t think this came off well as a barley wine but would work as a double IPA or something of that variety. A good option if you’re hops obsessed. 7 3 7 2 13

When I first had Fat Tug it really was a revelation, but the beer alas has not really kept up with the times. I still like it, and it has some nice hop brightness, but compared with the leading IPAs of 2014 this beer is far too chewy and carries with it too much alcohol. The hop brightness is no longer cutting edge, either. It has become merely a serviceable IPA.

hazy golden brown color. Necterines, citrus full bodied. Fresh alive hops. Excellent backbone.

On tap at The Alibi Room for their 300th Beer Menu, pours a cloudy bronze / orange / red with a small beige head. Aroma of sour red fruits, a bit of worcestershire sauce, subtle oak barrels and some light vinous notes. Flavour is pleasantly sour / tart, with sour red fruits, oak barrels, dry zesty notes and some subtle vinous qualities. Medium complexity with a soft body. Very nice, but not worthy of the local praise it's been getting.

22 oz. bottle, pours a hazy orangey copper with a small white head. Aroma of piney and citrus hops and a bit of caramel. Flavour is robustly hpppy, with loads of resinous hops, with hardly any malt backing to balance - very bitter finish. Unbalanced, but done so well I can hardly fault it. Hophead's paradise.

Very nice orange-gold body with a pile of carbonation, solid white-beige head on top. Aroma has slight sour ale funk and a load of steeping hops. Flavour is local malts with a dry hop finish. Bitterness as an aftertaste, some sour ale notes as well. And I like sour ales - this is a good mix, though I wish they had upped the sour and eased off on the bitter hops. Worth a try.
