12oz bottle. Jezuz fuck, BB March 24 19. h my. As a general rule I don't by Heavy Seas. But one never gets to drink iced beers, so exceptions have to be made. Not until I opened it did I know it was also BA, bourbon? You know, that is exactly Heavy Seas problem. Eisbock not good enough, lets stick it in a barrel. Well, its strong. Think Sami but even sweeter, lots of thick syrup malts but its a lager so they are not so bad. Heck, when you buy this you get what you pay for and that is to be a little, you know, you know (wink wink).

Florals and some citrus. I get the stickiness as well. Pours clear orange with ok head. Some cloying aftertaste. Bottle.

$4.15 bottle from Wine Warehouse. Pours brown with a reddish tint and a dusting of a head. Aroma is thick, rich caramel, smoked peat, plum, cocoa. Flavor is cocoa, dark fruit, earth, barrel, vanilla, chocolate, caramel, toffee. There's some back end booze, but doesn't taste like 13%. Thick and slightly syrupy. Nice.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Total Wine & More, Danvers. Appearance is hazy, dark orange/light brown with fair sparkle, finger-width, off-white foamy head with fair retention and nice soapy lacing. Aroma is strongly floral with mild sweet citrus, strong bread with caramel malt backbone, sugary sweetness. Taste is strong caramel with citrus balance, sugary sweetness throughout. Palate is medium bodied with smooth texture, soft-to-average carbonation, mild pleasant alcohol warmth and finish as taste. Overall, can trace the lineage to Loose Cannon and high marks for strength but not the most complex.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Total Wine & More, Danvers. Appearance is lightly hazy, light brown-orange with light sparkle, finger-width, off-white foamy head with poor retention and mild, leggy lacing. Aroma is citrus, dank, caramel malt backbone, floral/muted candied sugar. Taste is as aroma. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thick, smooth texture, average-to-lively carbonation and fairly dry finish as taste. Overall, this was a bit old (best by 11/6/18) so hop contribution likely muted a bit as this leans more to the malt side than a fresh batch likely would. Will have to re-rate at some point. Still, can tell there's quality construction here.

On tap at patrick's. Haze on iced tea eye. Sweeter fruit nose. Quite strong up front. Volatile with aroma. Beefy. Can't really taste the wine barrel thang. Almost medicinal in the end. Dizzying finish.

Tasty giant porter, not particularly complex but tasty nonetheless. Bourbon barrel's the central component; lots of booze in the profile, oaky and semisweet, with subtle chocolate and dark fruit notes accented by licorice, caramel, and a nice dose of roast (enough to qualify this porter for stouthood). Never gets as deep as you want--the bourbon really does take over as the pint warms--and the coffee's a nonfactor, but the texture's not overly syrupy and the liquor burn is toned down to a subtle warmth. Lovely chocolate-caramel nose, pretty dark black pour with a clingy brown head and modest lacing. Not bad.
