Bottled (@ PivniGaleriePraha): Ruby-amber coloured, medium-sized fluffy tanned head, lacing and slowly collapsing; sweet dark-malty, caramelly nose with a distinctive touch of toasted malt; sweet (malty) flavour, surprisingly full bodied, velvet MF; longer sweet-caramelly finish with a delicate bitterness in the very end. A bit on the sweet side, but all in all a very pleasant and decent Dunkles !

Bottle (@ Pivni Galerie Praha) Deep golden coloured, medium-sized lacing white head; sweet grainy nose with a tinge of herbal hoppiness; sweet flavour, medium bodied; sweet-herbal-bitter, also a bit citrousy finish. Not bad, but a little bit too much on the sweet side.........

Best before bottle 6/30/2006 from Sams in Chicago consumed on 5/12/06. Foamy, huge creamy-ivory head is well-retained, showing light, spotty lacing. Intensely burnished brass body is luminous and shows a flurry of bubbles. Coming after Podkovan, anything is going to smell crisp and highly attenuated (no, but seriously, I actually didnt mind Podkovan). Crisp, mineralic, just plain aromatic (perfect is the only word I can say) styrian goldings explode on the nose with a wonderfully crisp lager yeast. Seems like they lagered this one amply. The flavor is crisp, biting and with that true mineralic water that balances sweet pils malt so wonderfully. I don’t even think this is the most amazing Bohemian Pils, but this is just such an intense style, with such a strong sense of malt and beautiful hops that it’s hard to really relax and see this for what it is.

Black with a red tint. Thick khaki colored head that fades slowly. Some lacing, and a lasting layer of foam. It looks wonderful. Malt and caramel aroma. Flavor is heavy roasted malt and smoke with caramel as well. Full bodied and easy to drink. Outstanding dunkel, served on draught at Ferdinanda in Prague.
