They call this a black ale.

Off-black, fizzy pour at the source with family eagerly looking to slip away. The house is playing barnyard bingo & I am embarrassed yet infatuated.

Ashy, cigarettes, milky texture.
Off sweet, lactose, cola, tons of char.
Some extra acidity, thin, less than great drinkability.

Okay.

Pale yellow with a sharp, musty aroma. Mild horse blanket flavor with a sweet and spicy taste underneath. Funky finish.

Opaque copper color, lasting thin head. Malty, floral and herbal aroma. Taste is slightly caramel sweet with a mild, funky overripe fruit flavor. Dry, roasted grain finish.

08/18/20 Bottle from the brewery. Conditioned with honey as is many/most of their brews. Wine glass @ home. Clingy, eggshell head over an opaque, mellow herbal tea/browned butter-like colored brew. More milkshake-y on the second pour. Smells of lime-y mineral water & peppercorn. Dry & slightly parching malt. Strong soapy & zesty bitterness, like if you ever reused lime slices in a water bottle. Some people will like that. Frothy, starchy, but a bit thin. Boozy, herbal finish. More plant like bitterness as it warms. Nothing fancy or curious, but it drinks well. Pricey in retrospect @ $13 for 750ml.

11/07/20 Code name: The End. Brewed in collaboration with Botanist & Barrel, Bhramari & Saint Somewhere on March 18th 2020, the start of government shutdown in NC. Bottle from the brewery. Pale, amber, opaque brew. Sticky, light head. Peach, parsley, fresh, fruity Bhramari farmhouse scent. Yeasty, potpourri of rindy fruit, very crusty malt, a touch floral. Frothy, chalky, good acid, mostly dry aside from a very slight slickness; good quaffability. Tastes just like another wild Bhramari brew, though I don't have a feel for Sideways just yet. Good stuff.

04/16/20 Bottle from Wolfbrew in NC. Pint glass. Goopy, gold body, courageous but thin eggshell head. Smell is herby & oaky, with a slight twang. Might be smoke, but not unless you're looking for it. Taste is a mellow but lingering bitter herbal, with a somewhat sharp pils profile & a very very light touch of soot. Very carbonated, frothy not thin or thick body. Drinks at macro strength & didn't notice it was only 3.3%. Brewed as a loose rendition of a Grodziskie, but basically drank like a hearty pils. Wanted more smoke or raw sage flavor. A little pricey.
