I have a pint can that was bought at Mr. T's, the local beer store, a couple of weeks past. The tasting tonight will be with my ABGB tulip glass, so lifting the tab and making the pour. A hazy lemon-colored body finished by a proper top of snow white foam. I smell plenty of citrus and some white bread. The drink is really all right. More grapefruit than orange juice but certainly both, malt, a touch of pine, a noticeable yellow fruit sweetness and a decent bitterness. This beer appears to be a hybrid of New England and West Coast styles, maybe that is the newest wave. I think it works.

This 16 oz can of Little Nero was located at the local beer shop. Keeping it in the Metroplex, I am using my Cowtown snifter for the sampling. The appearance is a cloudy, hazy, lemon gold followed by a billowy top of off-white foam. I smell a lot of fruit with some hoppiness lurking in the background. The taste is essentially pretty good and this coming from someone who is no fan of the NE style. Quite malty, grapefruit, a bit of pineapple to sweeten things up, bread and yellow fruit, perhaps nectarine. Decently bitter for a NE style and rather dense, two pluses in my book. I am pleasantly surprised all the way around. I'd still take a hop bomb from back in the day but this beer sorted out all right.

This pint can was purchased at Mr. T's across town from me. I have a tulip glass from a Houston brewery in place for the pour. Hazy in appearance, no surprise, it is a lemony orange color with a slight skim of white foam. Very fruity smell, mostly tropical with some citrus. The drink is strong with grapefruit, varnish, juice and malt. Sweet more than it is bitter. Nothing I haven't generally tasted dozens of times before.

First sampling from the brewery, I trust there will be more. I like to use my globe glass to taste IPAs, so it is. I open the tall boy can coming from the craft store I frequent mostly before tilting inside of the glass. Orange in color, I should be surprised? The head is a puffy, just-short-of-white foam. I smell juice and a touch of pine. Usually the taste blows by the scent and that is the case again. A fairly large amount of sweet OJ, hops and varnish. It is not that I dislike these beers, I don't. But they are mostly indistinguishable. So many and so similar.

On tap @False Idol. Pale yellow, super hazy, borderline milkshake. Sweet onion bright orange, same shit. Onion orange hybrid, maybe too astringent, super pithy on the finish. Too one sided.

On tap @False Idol. Amber red, clear, iced tea, still. Acidic, kinda plain, lemon & cereal, mineral backdrop. Overall mellow nose. Tea, tea tannins & un-presumptuousness sharp berry notes. Long draw of thin malt, lingering floral berry, plain Cheerios. Thin, kinda delicious & simple.

On tap at the source. Cloudy, pale yellow slurry. Sugary, lemon/orange powdered drink, solid grapefruit pith. More onion sweetness than citrus. Some ammonia & astringent peachy notes. Lingering white grapefruit bitterness. Meh to okay.

Pour @the source. Inky flat color with very dark brown highlights. Cereal grain & a little booze. Not much here. Taste is gentle toast, some whiskey richness, itchy toast, too much soot. I'm not getting the deep dark sweetness in a typical Baltic. Missing stuff.

Pour @False Idol. Hazy, rooibos tea pale red color. Yeasty, clay, sour green berry, cherry candy. Seriously sour. Hardcore Marzipan & sour cherry astringency. Apple. Mellow toast through the finish. Am I supposed to taste anything else? Strong & bleh.

Pour at the source. In honor of my homie 2pac from down under(& on the can label). Clear, medium gold, lotsa froth. Orange & floral. Subtle rose. Very nice. Astringent, white grapefruit pith, hit of white sugar, veggie bitterness. Middling to good. Bloated category.
