808 Brewery Bark at the Moon Imperial Oatmeal Stout with macadamia nuts Vanilla beans and coffee beans 9% Deep black with tan foam and a sweet roasty aroma. Full bodied and velvety smooth with a bit of prickly carbonation. Chocolatey, roasty with big vanilla and nutty macadamia. Pretty good.

Can by mail order. Bright, pale gold, very hazy, with a thick head. Bright, citrusy nose, grapefruit, lemon, orange, papaya. Sweet and juicy, citrus and tropical fruit, medium bitterness at the end. Well put together haze for this new brewery.

808 Brewery Oyama Ale Saison 4.5% I didn’t know 808 was pronounced YaoYa. Crystal clear mellow gold with thick bubbly soapy white foam. Very peppery and lemony aroma. Medium to bodied, fairly smooth with loads of white pepper, lemongrass, lemon and wheat notes. Solid stuff.

Can from the brewery mail order. Malty nose, caramel, some citrus, fruity esters. Very cloudy, almost muddy, dark brown. Flavor is malty caramel, chocolate, a touch vegetal, and a very bitter finish. Nice enough but slightly flawed and unbalanced.

808 Brewery IPA 7% Matte gold with a dense white foam. Nice hop bouquet, medium bodied and bitter. The aroma is decent West Coast IPA. This beer isn’t very balanced but is OK. To be honest I feel this is the weakest of the five 808 beers I’ve tried.

808 Brewery ESB 5.5% A style you don’t see enough of in Japan this ruddy orange-brown brew is topped with a tan head and has a toffee biscuit aroma. Medium bodied but very crisp and clean with caramel, biscuit and a bitter tobacco leaf in the finish. The lingering bitterness might be a touch to high but a really really solid beer.

808 Brewery Table Saison 3% Holy citrus and lemongrass aroma! Looking at the label there’s Yuzu in it. Second sniff is Yuzu and soda bread. Light bodied and crisp, for a low ABV beer this packs lots of flavor. This is not a subtle Yuzu saison but it’s pretty solid.

808 Brewery Flatbush Hazy IPA 7.5% In certain light it’s a bit murky and flat but in other light it’s a nice yellow golden haze with thick white foam and a tropical juicy aroma. The beer has a medium body and is smoother than most Japanese haze which I like. The taste starts of juicy with mango and orange julep notes then gives you bitter slightly green hoppiness you get when you use tons of hops. Quite solid for a brewery I know little about.
