A team of Faroese entrepreneurs are collaborating on building the islands’ latest brewery, located in the country’s capital, Tórshavn.
The brewery is called OY, a shortened word for “oyggj(ar)”, which means “island(s)”.
OY’s production capacity stands at approximately 1.2 million litres. In Faroese terms, it will be one of the islands’ biggest breweries. Internationally, it qualifies as a microbrewery.
OY will look to establish itself in the Faroe Islands first and foremost. In time, the plan is to start exporting its products.
Initially, OY will primarily focus on brewing and selling mainstream beers like pilsner, strong beer, IPA, and cider. Once those are up and running, special beers will also be added to OY’s beer catalogue. OY will function as a brewpub, offering beer tasting and tours, and will include a small shop with OY merchandise.
MBCC: amberish with white head. Aroma is slightly lactic, some vague hints of amaretto, maltiness. Not really what I was expecting from this. Underwhelming.
27/4/2024. Can shared at fonefan Ulfborg tasting. Pours clear pale amber with a small frothy off-white head. Aroma is malty, caramel, fruity, straw. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness and body. Slightly watery, average carbonation. Okay.
MBCC. Hazy yellow with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, fruity and moderate hoppy - fruity. Flavor is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish. 110524
