Description
A team of Faroese entrepreneurs are collaborating on building the islands’ latest brewery, located in the country’s capital, Tórshavn.

The brewery is called OY, a shortened word for “oyggj(ar)”, which means “island(s)”.

OY’s production capacity stands at approximately 1.2 million litres. In Faroese terms, it will be one of the islands’ biggest breweries. Internationally, it qualifies as a microbrewery.

OY will look to establish itself in the Faroe Islands first and foremost. In time, the plan is to start exporting its products.

Initially, OY will primarily focus on brewing and selling mainstream beers like pilsner, strong beer, IPA, and cider. Once those are up and running, special beers will also be added to OY’s beer catalogue. OY will function as a brewpub, offering beer tasting and tours, and will include a small shop with OY merchandise.

Tap. Clear golden color with white head. Aroma is white sugar, flowery hops, a bit fruity and sweet. Taste is the same. Oily mouthfeel, soft-bubbled carbonation.

Tap. Clear deep amber color with white head. Aroma is grainy, cereal, malty, some berries. Taste is cereals, caramel, berries, clean. Oily mouthfeel with low carbonation. Clean!

Tap. Clear amber color with white head. Aroma is big smoke, ham, wet dog. Taste is all the ham, salty, caramel malts. Oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Tasty enough!

On tap at MBCC 2023, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out medium roast and earthy, toasted malt. Flavour is medium toasty, with gentle sugars and earthiness. Toasty and dry. Decent.

On tap at MBCC 2023, pours a clear pale golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out herbal, vegetal notes and biscuity malt. Flavour is vegetal and herbal, with sweet vegetal notes, almost no hops. Too herbal and vegetal. Not great.
