Description

Medium, cream-coloured head over deep red-brown beer. Wood, woodstripper, solvent, even acetone, lactic acid, tad of acetic. Milder in the mouth, with lactic acid, bit fruity esters, and a sweetener, that manages to taste more or less artificial. Good sour-sweet balance, but it appears forced somehow. Fizzy feel, slightly burning MF, very slick texture, even oily. Feels medium bodied. I seem to remember it being sweetened too, but in the end, when I used to drink Anglo-Belge Oud Bruin I liked it better... This tastes like a slightly sweeter version of Duchesse de Bourgogne.

Small if reasonably stable white head, fed by fine pearling clear copperish-golden beer. Creamy nose, bit toasted, faintly spicy, herb, maybe some white candi sugar. Sweet, again toasted, caramel in force. Hint at parsley. Not very exciting flavours; the CO² lends a tad of acidity. Good, spritzy carbonation, quite slick, medium bodied. Dull, neutral to sweet... where is the interest here, the attraction?

Light gushing to huge, dense, irregular yellowish head, extremely stable, over copperish orange beer. 'Beery' nose, toasted, herbal, weedy hops, and traces of candi sugar. Spicy herbal & toasted flavour. Light bitter finish, again with a fresh herbs character. Feels quite carbonated, light to medium bodied. Not half bad!

Bottle at a tasting. In line with my expectations of the flanders style. Mostly funky, with assertive sourness and considerable acetic component to it. Satisfyingly complex funk though, rather high intensity, at the same time retaining some malty background - light caramel. Rather easy drinking, quite good.

Huge thanks to JefVerstraete for that one! Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass dark brown, almost black, small head. Intense malty and sourish aroma. Starts strong, malty, sourish. Fruity with notes of berries, woody, hints of red wine. Could be more balanced. Finish a bit less sourish, still some woody-malty and fruity notes. Strange.
