Opaque pale yellow. Not much head. Pear on the nose. Also on the palate, lots of candy pear sweetness, but there’s also a touch of cardamom. Ok, could stand to be a bit drier.

Pale amber with a chill haze. Thin head. Quite toasty, soft malts, low bitterness. Ok this one needs a boost of hops.

Poured from 473mL can. Clear pale blonde with small white head. Crisp, grain, very feint apple character. Decent.

Hermitage Park Hefeweizen from Fern + Cedar Brewing

Pale and cloudy, thick head. Some banana on the nose, with off phenols as well. Tart and wheaty, with light banana. Balanced sweetness. I had a good vibe about this and sure enough, this is one of the more solid examples of the style I’ve had in BC in a while.

Smoked Maple Brown from Fern + Cedar Brewing

Pale brown, a bit of haze, thin head. Toasty and with a bit of maple up front on the nose. Heavy maple on the palate, over a fairly thin, tart base. Basically a not good brown ale covered up with maple.

Chainsaw Cicada Thai Sour from Fern + Cedar Brewing

Quite pale, slight haze. No head. Bright gingery, lemongrassy flavours, moderate tartness. The flavour elements go well with each other and the base sour. Good stuff.

Green Mountain State NEIPA from Fern + Cedar Brewing

Opaque, yellowish. Not much head. Green harsh hop character. At this level it’s hard to discern specific aromatics. Malt is thin. For a brewery that only has one IPA, this is a pretty faithful take on hazy, in line with what many top hazy purveyor are doing. Not necessarily my thing but this hits the mark.

Dull amber, medium head. Sweet butterscotchy character. Fairly light body. Sugars on the palate but a touch of acidity in the finish. I was worried this would be egregious but it’s not bad. Just not my thing.

Golden colour, bright but not especially vibrant. Fairly sweet, moderate bitterness, nice lacing. Seems okay but the balance is too much to the sweet for my taste.

Pale reddish amber, thin head. Light body. Clean. Mellow malts. Rather bland, a light amber rather than a mild. Nothing to entice the drinker.
