Description
Driven by a passion for a quality product, Parbold's first microbrewery.

Jonny likes nothing better than a decent pint! So much so, he built a brewery intending to capture flavours from his imagination. We like to think it’s ‘his passion’ that goes into making these cask conditioned ales so good. We’d love you to sample his magic.

…. And if you ever thought where did that name come from?

The Problem Child name originates from Parbold’s prodigal Rachel. Jonny’s wife and business partner. Born and bred in Parbold, she wandered afar as a Problem Child in her teens, now home, and brewing happily!

Cask at Smithfield, Derby. Pours a golden amber with minimal white head. Not much of an aroma – just vaguwe hints of autumn fruits. Grains and autumn fruits again in the mouth, plus some hints of hops and a caramel base. Finish is slightly malty. Decent but not very exciting. Personally I would call this a bitter rather than a golden ale.

Garden party at Rusovce. Med-thin body, med-high carbonation. Assertive dry roasted character. Med-high bitterness, moderate body. Not much in terms of sweetness, mostly defined by the black malts and moderate grassy resiny character. Quite good.

Fruity dry nose with hints of smoke. Dry fruity beginning, smoke with lots of red malts. Fruity and dry, the smoke is a bit unpleasant in combination with the red malt. Dry and smoky red malty aftertaste. Interesting. --- Beer merged from original tick of Arsonist on 20 May 2020 at 21:58 - Score: 6. Original review text: Fruity dry nose with hints of smoke. Wigan Beer Festival 2020. Golden in colour, it’s a light textured hoppy brew and easy in style and texture. There’s a hint of popcorn sweetness in its nose.

2/11/2019. Bottle from Priest Town Brewing Bottle Shop, Preston. Pours clear pale gold with an average size off-white head. Aroma of hops, citrus, sweet malt, flowers and grass. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness. Moderate body, slight oily and creamy texture, average carbonation. Improved as the bitterness picked up.

19/10/2019. Bottle from Priest Town Brewery Bottle Shop, Preston. Pours clear bright amber with a lasting small foamy off-white head. Aroma of malt, bonfire, smoked meat, burnt toffee. Medium sweetness and moderate smoked bitterness. Moderate body, slight oily texture, average to soft carbonation. Surprised, but I quite liked this.
