Another pint at Trailside Tap, Ankeny. Why? Because it turns out the hour before closing on Sunday is happy hour! Hops and apricot right up front at the first sniff. The color can be described as a hazy gold or… oh, all right, apricot juice. So the taste rides along with that impression of fruit, swiftly tempered by an edge of bitterness. Plenty of malt in the mouth. A little further in, some orange juice kicks in, and then yes, there’s that bit of spice from rye malt.

Both aromas and flavors are fresh resin hops with some citrus and a little weed to round it out. Leans West Coast style. Good balance between bitter, sweet and carbonation. Full body and satisfying finish. Nice beer.

Short lived head doesn't totally disappear. Aromas are traditional Bavarian Hefeweizen, likewise flavors. Doesn't have quite the effervescence of the original premier brands. Not bad though.

Pretty good stuff. The aromas are citrus juice and pith with a little resin. Flavors are similar to nose with good balance between sweet, carbonation and bitter. Slightly chewy body and good drinking beer.

16 oz can, 3.99 at John's Grocery. Nice citrus hop smell right under the tab. Bit of a whiff of yeast as I pour. head is big and bubbly, beer is very hazy beneath. The taste is kind of juicy. But, I find the mouthfeel is a bit to thin. Thinner than expected, even for a session beer. Not that the malts aren't there, but for a punchy hop note like this, nice and fruity with a but of resin in the edge, I would have liked a little more malt for balance. But still, pretty nice.

Crowler. Pours a clear deep amber with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma is boozy with whisky and sweet grains with a bit of smokiness and a light tobacco underlying. Flavor has lots of sweet grain and whiskey with a light smokiness, toffee and caramel underlying.
