Decent, but overly dry throughout (taste and finish). This dryness diminshes the drinkability/thirst quenching capability of this German classic. Hops prevalent, slightly hazy pale golden body, small airy head.

33cl can in Brussels via trade with BuckeyeBoy.

50cl can via trade in Brussels courtesy of BuckeyeBoy.

12oz can I scored via trade with Jake65. Thanks Jake. Pours a thick black with some spitty, tan head. Nose has malt, molasses, booze, some toasted wood, some toasted bread, Kahlua, some mild coffee. Flavors are similar, a good blend of malt and barrel, a little caramel, malt, molasses, toast, some charcoal, a little earthy, some earthy unprocessed chocolate. Full bodied but smooth at the same time.

Deep dark copper and amber coloured body with a nice once centimetre tall just off-white head and a little lighter glow at the bottom. Aroma of toasted malt, toffee, caramel, rich sweetness and some lighter fruits - very nice, but still deep. Medium-bodied; Assertive grassy and piney hops up front with a large toffee, caramel and robust malt flavour at the end - very nice, complex and well-balanced. Aftertaste is quite lengthy with the hops showing right at first then fading to a subdued toffee and caramel sweetness and ending with a light earthy malt flavour. Overall, a nice beer with a good profile and a solid taste throughout, showing some sweetness, bitterness and complexity! I sampled this twenty ounce pint on draught at Home Team Sports in Boise (BOI Airport), Idaho on 08-April-2014 for US$ en route back home to [the real] Washington.

Aroma and flavor of nuts, roast grains. Thin head fading to nothing on dark brown body. Taste a bit more bitter than 17 IBUs, was expecting this to be a heller bock, so pleasantly surprised to find it dark.
