Description
A small independent brewery based in Northern Ireland with a belief in simplicity and a knack for brewing pretty good beer.

Like many good ventures, Modest Beer was born in a parent’s garage in Holywood, County Down when Chris Morris, a tax accountant by day, brewed a small experimental batch of Kölsch for a friend’s restaurant. Within two years we moved to a much larger brewery in Randalstown. We never set out to brew the best beer in Northern Ireland, but maybe someday we will.

44cl can: BB 12th April 2024, drank at home on 26th October 2023. Clean and clear light golden body, white topping. Soft, easy going Helles, subtle aroma and taste, light hops, light malts, really enjoyed it, just what I needed after driving 7 hours to Heathrow and back.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from Beer Merchants online. Pours lightly hazed gold with a creamy, white topping. Light sweet flavour with pleasant citrus notes, lemon rind, simple supportive pale malts, a little peach. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Pretty well balanced finish, notes of melon, citrus, light bitter rind and pine needles. Quaffable.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from Beer Merchants online. Pours lightly hazed gold with a creamy, white topping. Lightly sweet flavour with some generic citrus hops, dry pale malts, pine needle accents. Light bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Finishes with some tangerine peel, peach, pine needles, sun-kissed pale malts. So so.

Hops yes, but so much more. Lovely floral nose and deep perfumed mouth feel. Like drinking a lavender pillow. Not that I'd know....
