Right Brain Brewery is nestled in the SoFo District of downtown Traverse City, Michigan. Our focus is on creating artisanally made, one-of-a-kind culinary inspired brews. If you taste something in our beers, like asparagus, cherry pies, or real pig, it's because we put it there using only whole natural ingredients; after all... extracts are for sissies.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 1/10/2015. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of raisin, plum, fig, pear, apple, caramel, brown sugar, honey, toffee, toast, herbal, light pine, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity yeast, dark/bready malt, and earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of raisin, plum, fig, pear, apple, caramel, brown sugar, honey, toffee, toast, herbal, light pine, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of herbal/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, fig, pear, apple, caramel, brown sugar, honey, toffee, toast, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice balance and complexity of fruity yeast, dark/bready malt, and earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with smooth, fairly creamy, and lightly sticky/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is fairly well hidden with a light-moderate warming that lingers after the finish. Overall this is a very nice English barelywine style. All around good complexity, balance, and robustness of fruity yeast, dark/bready malt, and earthy hop flavors; and quite smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A bit hot right now, but not overwhelming. I will definitely grab some more for aging. A very enjoyable offering.

16oz can via the Mystery Box BIF. Pours a murky, opaque black with some creamy, brown head. Nose is a mix of molasses, licorice, roasted grains, mild coffee bean, some brown sugar, quite a bit of bread crust, even a little wet earth. Flavor is a bit more straight forward, malty, mild brown sugar, molasses, coffee, burnt toast, bread crust. Dry finish. Very drinkable, but I would like a bit more coffee.

Sample at GABF 10/03/2014, thanks to my sis for assistance with note-taking. Hazy amber color with a medium thin off-white head. Spotty lacing. Malt, caramel and slight hops in the nose. Medium body with flavors of grainy malt, caramel and mild hops. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bomber that I picked up in July, drove around all summer with and finally opened tonight. I stored it well, but it’s got some miles on it. Pour is a decent cola brown with active carbonation and a fizzy head. Aromas are further indication that nothing has gone bad here - some mild chocolate and a little bit of earthy scent. Flavor is simple but good for the style. Mild chocolate and autumn leaves with some nuts and earth. A bit muted and washed out, but good enough to make me glad I picked this one up when I was up in God’s country this summer.
