Bottle, thx to papsoe. It pours a dark ruby body under a nice creamy head. A bit sourish in the aroma, with roasted malt and some coffee. Roasted malt, some burnt notes and a little touch of dried fruits in the flavor, finishing with roasted malt, some coffee and a little fruit. Medium, quite dry, yet slightly sticky mouthfeel. I’m not very impressed by this one, but at least it’s not bad. (080412)

Bottle, thx to papsoe. A slightly hazy beer with a quite small off-white head. Banana, bubble-gum and cloves in the aroma, in an artificial-feeling way. The flavor is sweet and bananaish, with candy, and cloves towards the finish. A bit thin and sticky in the mouth. Banana and cloves in the finish. A decent beer, noting more, but it feels a bit artifical. Sure drinkable though, and quenching. (080412)

Bottle. It’s quite pale golden in color, with a big but diminishing white head leaving some nice lacings. Fruity and a bit grainy on the nose, with a hop aroma giving expectations for the flavor. It’s quite bitter in the mouth, with a balancing malty sweetness, and a fruityness. Medium body, slightly sticky. Maybe a bit sweet in the finish, but with a nice fruityness and a decent bitterness. A quite nice beer, a bit sweet, but nice. And now it’s retired. (080521)

Bottle. An almost golden beer with a small, dense white head leaving some lacings. The aroma started with cooked vegetables. Then some apple and peach comes through, as well as a good dash of grains. It’s bready and malty in the mouth, with a nice bitterness. Good carbonation and medium fullness. Bready, fruity and pleasantly bitter finish. There’s something strange about this beer, maybe some butterscotch. I didn’t care too much for the aroma, but it’s quite drinkable, and don’t taste bad. (080521)

Bügelverschlußflasche: Clear, pale golden to golden, mid-sized fluffy white head, a bit lacy and slowly collapsing; distinctive pale-malty to strawy nose, backed by a grassy hoppiness; light to moderate sweet-bitter flavour, almost medium bodied, creamy MF, a bit oily; solid malty-grainy finish fith a distrinctive grassy-hoppy aftertaste. An archetypal Export for thirsty miners, back to the 50’s.........

Bottled flip top (BB 11/2008)
Courtesy of bierkoning, ty Edo! Dark cola/ruby color, small off-white head. Dark rye bready, lightly cellary aroma with some sugary sweetness. Light toasted and caramelly flavor (together with some milky hints) with hops in the finish. Aftertaste is bitter. This is plesant although not inspiring schwarzbier, this seems to be quite good brewwery.

(swing top bottle) Perhaps a tiny bit darker in colour than the Gründer Hell, but still pale golden with a medium-sized blond foamy head. Compared to its antecessor the aroma of the new release has more emphasis on the malt-character; still moderately sweet but delicately cara-malty with very subtle fruity and restrained herbal hoppy notes. It is the same with the taste: the sour dough character has been replaced by a more aromatic and almost hearty (cara-)malty body; finishes malty and subtle fruity with slightly bitter and herbal hoppy accents, leaving out the former grassy notes. I appreciate the recipe change (08.05.08).
