Bomber from Whidbey Beer Works. Pours very dark ruddy amber with a foamy off-white head. Aroma is creamy/malty. Mildly sweetish. Med. body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is pretty toffee tinged. Not all that sweet and there’s some hop underlayer that keeps it ok. But that caramel/toffee aspect sticks around.

Bomber pours deep clear copper with off white head. The aroma has loads of chewy sweet smelling kettle caramelization with a touch of dark fruitiness in the background. The taste is similar with ample amounts of sweet caramel followed by a modest level of crystal malts and some dark fruitiness. There’s a light roasted malt note leading to some drying astringency to help balance out the sweetness.

On tap at the Mukilteo brewpub. I love how this brand new beer is their Standard Pale. It was poured up on tap sort of gold – ish with a bit of haze and frothy full off white head. The aroma as with the flavor was similar with spicy hops and some citrus hops mixing with thin notes of graininess and malts. It stays pretty fresh, crisp and somewhat thin and watery throughout. The thin-ness may aid in the hot weather drinkability they may be striving for with this pale.

April 2026 rating: Update after 16 years! On tap at Diamond Knot MLT, pours a clear dark copper with a small beige head. Aroma has gentle resinous hops, some pine, and crisp biscuity malt. Flavour has plenty of woody resinous hops, pine, and sweet bready caramel. More malty than I remember, but retains that old school woody resinous character. Can’t say this is as great as my memory, but I was noob back then. Good.

March 2010 rating: On tap at The Taphouse, pours a hazy orange. Aroma of hops and oak. Flavour of hops, grapefruit, oak, wood and pine. Fantastic IIPA.
