West Yorkshire,
England 🏴
Associated Venue: Airedale Heifer (Bridgehouse)
Established in 2010
in March 2010 Bridgehouse Brewery purchased the kit of the closed Ryburn Brewery and commenced brewing in Keighley and very soon moved up the Worth valley to Oxenhope. In May 2014, Bridgehouse and Old Bear merged and the brewery moved to the Old Bear site in Aireworth Road. A new brewhouse was then built behind the Airedale Heifer pub at Sandbeds, between Keighley and Bingley, and the brewing is now done there. To this day Bridgehouse Brewery still use open top fermenters and traditional brewing menthods.

Cask at Sun Inn, Stafford. I’m not sure if this is the same beer that others have rated. Rather than being “almost black” like they claim it was a rich ruby red ! Still it tasted somewhat like a porter so… Anyway, hazy ruby red with a small cream head. Aroma has malts and juiciness of red wine gums. Malts again to the for in the mouth, where there are cherries and hints of more generic dark fruits. It is sweet and smooth, and texture varies from creamy to slightly watery. Not bad at all.

Cask at the Sun Inn, Stafford. Pours bitter brown with a fair sized off-white head and good lacing. Malts are the mainstay of the aroma here. In the mouth it has a sticky texture, with grains, ginger and honey to the fore at first, before traditional bitter hops come through strongly. Malts and caramel are lurking underneath as well. Finish is dry and hoppy. Takes a bit of getting used to, but is quite nice. The pump clip claims it is an IPA, and I would say it is more that way than a strong bitter.

Cask at Sun, Stafford. Pours “bitter brown” with a small foany off-white head and good lacing. Malts and fruity oranges in the aroma. In the mouth it starts of sweet and slightly fruity before bitterness takes over. There’s also biscuits and caramel hanging around. Finish is rather dry. Bit of a nothing beer really.

27/11/2021. Bottle from Beer Central, Sheffield, shared with ITFCfan/Dan. Pours clear bright amber bronze with a small frothy off-white head. Aroma of caramel, malt, berry, biscuit, touch of spice. Moderate sweetness, light bitterness. Moderate body, slightly watery, soft carbonation. Pretty unremarkable bitter.
