About
Ferry Ales Brewery was founded in 2016 by John and Mike, two professionals who have spent the last 10 years commuting daily for work on planes, trains and automobiles to London, across the UK and the globe.

They first met in 2010 on the station platform at Newark commuting to London. A mutual nod, a hello, and a few words later led to the guys becoming friends and families meeting. Meanwhile, manifesting in their heads, and unbeknown to each other, was their exit plan from the rat race into the world of craft beer brewing. In April 2015 a chance discussion on the train to London led to Mike revealing his exit plan which was very much to John's astonishment as neither Mike nor John was aware that the other had an interest in beer beyond drinking it.

Keg at the Parcel Yard Leicester as 'Kirsche'. Dark red and hazy with a thin white head. Aroma is malty, musty and metallic. A bit of cherry in the taste, but it leads to a vegetal finish. Medium carbonation. Ok.

500ml bottle [courtesy of Grumbo - cheers Graham!]. Jet black colour with average to huge, thick, frothy, slowly osteoporosing, minimally lacing, beige head. Dark malty aroma, hints of dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, toffee, minimally floral and waxy, hoppy overtones. Taste is sweet-ish, chocolately dark malty, slightly bitter roasty and mildly bitter hoppy counterweight, notes of dark chocolate, hints of coffee, a touch of toffee, mocha and caramel. Creamy texture, minimally overcarbonated. Not as devastating as all those 10+% Impy Stouts of course, but well balanced, highly drinkable, not that kind of last-of-the-evening knockout sipper.
