Description
Oakshire is a is a community inspired small batch brewing company privately owned by the family and friends of our company’s founders. Oakshire operates a small, 4,000 square-foot production brewery in Northwest Eugene, as well as the Oakshire Public House in Eugene’s Whiteaker neighborhood and the Oakshire Beer Hall in the Concordia/Cully neighborhood in Northeast Portland.
Eugene was chosen as Oakshire’s location in part due to the accessibility of clean, soft water from the McKenzie River. Since 2013, Oakshire Brewing has partnered with our local land conservation group, the McKenzie River Trust. One percent of Watershed IPA sales revenue is set aside for the protection of local watersheds in the territories where the beer is sold, helping to preserve the clean water that is so vital to our community and our beer.

Draft at Jack Rose. This one poured a hazy amber color with a medium sized white head - a nice break from these dark brown/black color that I’d been drinking all evening. Aroma was notes of hops, Belgian yeast notes. Nice spice character. Grapefruits, orange, and bready yeast.

Draft at Jack Rose. Poured a dark brown color with a tan. Aroma was pleasant citrus notes - grapefruit character, nice roasted notes. Nice citrus character, earthy notes, malt, coffee. Nice and refreshing - nice balance here, perhaps a bit heavy on the hop, something that is often missing in these Black IPAs.

Draft at Jack Rose. To break up the high abv beers that we’d been drinking, we got the Amber. The beer was standard to style, but still impressive. Refreshing, nicely balanced - not overly malted and no stale hop flavors. Light, creamy body. Quite refreshing.

Draft at Jack Rose. Poured a clear golden color with a small off-white head. Aroma was smoked malts, not quite cured meats smoked, but smokey none-the-less. Flavor was light earthy hops with strong malt overtones with a light, pleasant smoke character. Not usually my thing, this worked out pretty well.

In the can @ home, distributed to Colorado for CBC. Pours a deep brown appearance with a big, fluffy dark brown head. Green coffee beans, dark chocolate, heavy earth, and vanilla in the nose. Somewhat creamy, but heavy mouth feel. Quite roasty and burnt coffee. Fairly bitter. Kind of tasty, but not one of my favorites for for the style.

Can - black pour with a tan head - nose has a lovely, rich espresso character, without being overly acidic - the same can be said of the flavor - creamy texture, medium to full body - rich, roasty espresso flavor, smokiness, and bitter black malt, without any excessive acidity or char - well done coffee.stout.
